Junkyard rims? Tire Q

Looking for some light 15"-16" rims that will work on a 4th/5th gen besides the 300ZX rims.

Also, what tire brand/model is recommended that is inexpensive, but keeps me in the Street Touring class?

I'm sure these have been answered many times, I'll keep searching....

IIRC there were some mazda mellenia wheels that were extremely light and pretty wide for 15s....

I believe the earlier year Millenia wheels (maybe 95-97?) were 15x6.5 and weighed about 14 lbs. Didn't someone use RX7 wheels at one point? Other than that, maybe just some steelies, if they will fit over your brakes.

Looks like the Millenia won't fit over the rear dust shields...at least on a 4G.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'll just find some 15" GXE 5G rims...

How about 15" BBS I30T rims? They are 15" x 6.5" and weigh about 13 pounds each. I pulled them from a junkyard for almost nothing.

Im running those with Toyo T1-S for 1/4 mile and road course tires and they stick great. Total weight combo is 34 pounds.

Good thinking, I forgot about those. You could also look for the 15" BBS Q45t wheels, but good luck. Finding any of those BBS wheels is kinda hard, especially the Q wheels.

What years were those 15" BBS I30T rims on?

Keep them coming...hopefully I can find something for AutoX.

'96~'97 I30Ts.

These are also found on some J30s as well. IIRC the Q45/J30 wheels are 15" x 7" and have a different offset. That's something to consider, you would want a wider wheel for auto-x/road course. But I opted for the 6.5" FWD BBS wheels for weight savings.

Anything that clears 4G/5G brakes in a 15-16" diameter and up to 7.5" wide, but weighs less than 24lbs. each without screwing up the offset too bad is what I'm after.

tire question: people seem to really like the new azenis rt-615 for tires, as well as the older 215s, and hankook rs-2s. Check out all of those to start with

I'll definitely be looking for 15-16" Nissan/Infiniti rims, since I know the offset won't be wrong.

I have no idea what I'll find, since the junkyards I've been too only had domestics. I know there are a few Import yards, but I've never been.

The 15 X 7" rims were only a dealer option for a q45a and are really rare. The offset on these are 36mm and are actually lighter than the i30t bbs weighing in at a little over 13 pounds. The 15 x 6.5" i30 and q45 rims are the same size but different offsets and weigh about 14-15 lbs each. You can also get bbs rims from a 89 (IIRC) rx7 convertable and these are supposedly around 12-13 pounds each. Right now i use the 15 x 7 bbs with traction t/a for everyday use and they weigh in at 33 pounds. I think i could get this to be a little less with lighter, summer tires.

Yeah the Q45 15" x 7" are hard to find. But I had these 15 x 6.5" I30 BBS wheels weighed on a USPS postal scale. With wheel weights and no center caps they were 13 pounds and 6 ounces. Mounted and balanced with a 225/50/15 Toyo T1-S they are 34 pounds. Now after use they are probally 32~33 pounds.

I am selling 2 of the I30t BBS wheels. They weight exactly 13lbs 12.8oz. I weighed them on a scale at the post office and i have pic of it.

Alex, I'd suggest avoiding 6.5" wide rims - although good for drag, they're just not wide enough to support cornering forces and any tire wider than a 205.

I agree, hell I run 7" wide on the miata , I would suggest no narrower than 8". What about 17" G sedan wheels like Irish?

Just a note; the BBS's from a 2nd gen RX7 convertible are exactly the same as the I30 t wheels with the exception of the center bore which must be machined out. I picked up the rx7 wheels a few months ago for next to nothing, but got a big surprise when I tried to mount them. I found a machine shop to mill the center bore for $60 for the set, I am very happy with the wheels, just wanted to let everyone know what is involved in fitting these wheels.
