Wheel Size: 18 too big?

I've been thinking about trying out auto-x this season. I currently have stock 15" sawblades with relatively new all-season tires mounted. I also just picked up a set of Murano 18" rims with decent tires. They probably won't last much longer than through the fall with regular driving. I'm thinking that the 18s (225 & 235/40/18) will be too heavy and I'd be better of with the 15s (215/60/15)?

Also, would a BBK automatically bump me up to a higher class? I just found an incredible deal on one. But then that would force me to use the 18" rims (or buy light 17" rims which I'd rather not do at the moment).

This is all pretty new to me but if you guys with experience in all this could help me out. I've read through the Solo II handbook and regulations trying to figure out how to class my car and how to set it all up. Thanks

Yes BBks will upgrade you to a higher class but so might other mods, what else do you have done?
I bet you will notice a big difference with just better street/auto-x pads, SS lines and stock brembo blank rotors, it shoudl hold you till you go FI or another high power added. (if you alreay have and i didnt notice please disregard)

well, it's pretty lightly modded. just suspension (Illuminas w/ S-Techs/Eibach), and y-pipe. i don't think any other mods would really determine the class. oh, STS is going in this spring.

For autocross, the smaller diameter wheel, the better. Putting on heavy-azz Murano 18's would slow you down significantly.

i figured. but i'm trying to decide if i should buy a BBK for a great price. that will force me to use the 18s or buy some light 17s. i'm already hesitant about spending the money on the BBK, let alone more rims I'll probably pass on the BBK and just use the sawblades.

You'd be better off with light 17's and lower profile tires with stiff sidewalls IMO. Of course, I've only done it once, so I know squat.

I wouldn't buy BBK unless I was road racing or had enough money for both... just my 2 cents.
