Philly SCCA Novice Drivers School

Here's the link from last year:
http://forum.phillyscca.com/viewtopic.php?t=2549

What do you guys think about this? I've been auto-xing a few times, but have never been able to really get a hang of things with 6 short runs. It sounds like I would get plenty of seat time with this, and the price is nowhere near as bad as any other 'racing school'.

Has anyone here done the school, or something similar? Anyone want to join me this year in Philly?

Do you think a set of AS tires will get me through the event OK?

philly has some good instructors, however, I always cheated and just showed up to the Test and Tune's and just grabbed the guys I liked. with Test and Tune's you can also get 10 runs in fairly quickly, they're unlimited, but 10 seemed to work for me.

AS tires will be fine as long as you don't melt them by doing 6 runs in a row or something.

Nick, also note that Philly courses are alot bigger than the CDC ones you've run on in the past, whih will let you get more seat time and learn more complex lines....

I don't think it's been announced yet, but I think it will be about the same.

While I never had the chance to actually run Warminster, it's a HUGE track, bigger than Ripken, I was in the area during an event and stopped by and said hi to Norm.

From the link, however, it looks like they are holding the driving portion of the school at Boeing, which is probably bigger than the CDC courses, but it's still pretty tight, not like Ripken (or Warminster).

If you mean the PDX (aka HPDE) at Pocono, I'm not at all sure they're going to put one on this year. Might try the discussion forum.

They've vaporized, at least for the short term. Blame local politics (share of parking lot revenue?) and, perhaps the new construction across the access road from the stadium as well. There was some crap about holes driven through the pavement that I think took a while for the blame to be properly assigned (a circus or some such event, most definitely not an autocross).

That's also why there's no Philly Region winter series this year. The remaining lots aren't conducive to cold weather running.

The loss of Ripken also affects Autocrossers, Inc.

FedEx?! That's awesome. The lot is huge and real close to my place. I've done 2-3 driving schools/events there before and had a great time. Can't wait I just gotta find out when the Philly SCCA school is, I need some practice.

meh.. unlikely I'm running this summer anyhow. The Jeep and Triumph projects are underway and the track wheels/tires are sold, plus the maxima's cluch is on it's last legs I suspect....

Maybe I'll come co-drive the superchargedcutlermobile or something see if I can remember how to run with a RWD car

Well, just my luck. I forgot about the DC SCCA and now their driving school is filled up They seem to have 2 different schools, one called the Level 1 Auto-x school, the other is called Spring Drivers School. I tried to sign up for the spring drivers school but it says I need a valid SCCA license, which I don't have.
http://www.wdcr-scca.org/Default.aspx

Any thoughts on why this event is different from the auto-x school? It also looks like they don't offer the auto-x school in the fall Looks like I have to wait until next year.

Check the WDCR website, there is a level 1 autoX school scheduled for 5/24/08 you should be able to get into if you sign up soon.

All I have are a set of fairly new Pirelli P-Zero MS (AS) tires on my DD wheels. 2 days might be pushing it

Who wants to sell me a set of track wheels that will clear my brakes and have nice grippy tires on them? Maybe I can buy Josh's old wheels back from Jason since he apparently isn't using them Maybe I could pay to rent them.....

Or maybe I should turn these wheels into track wheels after these tires wear out, and buy a new set for DD.......?
