My last epic autocross vid of the season...

nice scenery at Summit Point on the tripls skid (used for drift and karting events, so its slick!). Also we were getting up to almost 70mph on this course, so it was fast as well.

Too much wind noise, so I had to overdub with some epic Iron Maiden...

Nice vid.

Funny I have a couple of Iron Maiden songs along with a bunch of other MP3s on the stereo when I'm zipping around the track. Most epic time was having Aces High come on and within the next 5 minutes of track time I flew past about a dozen or so German cars, one after another. Would of made more sense if I was driving a British car, but whatever I still laugh when I hear that song.

Also I need to run auto-x events around here to test out new setups before spending big money on road courses and finding all kinds of problems. I learned that lesson this year in a bad way up in Canada.

Just wait until I post up the videos I have. Thayer had the camera mounted right by the roudel on his supercharge M Coupe. It's sickeningly fast! (400 RWHP, 295's in the back, 255's in the front. It'll move and hold... makes me feel like I'm towing a rock through the course when I watch his video!)

The video guys at work are playing with it. It might take a bit as they're just messing with it on their free time to break the monotony of the other stuff they do.

So........ I doubt his videos look any faster than mine, unless your eyes can tell the difference between 2/100th of a second.

his car is badass and he's a great driver, but...... his best clean run: 48.777. my best clean run: 48.794. Just sayin'.

you could always post your own vids up so we could all see what a 52.9 looks like, though

It's where the camera was placed that makes the difference. Both yours and mine are high up (right beside our heads for in car, for the doors you put yours up by the mirror). His is only about 1.5' from the ground. The perspective makes all the difference!

Meh... I had the most fun and you can't measure that with numbers so I win.

PS: I managed to keep it mud-free this time!

One of my views was on the bottom of the rear door, just above the level of the height of a cone (so it doesn't get knocked off).....

...and it still looked slow compared to the video I got. When you see it you'll **** bricks.

I'll try to get the DVD back from the video guys to upload one unedited video

You do know that I've seen videos (and shot videos) with the camera in that position, right?

THis is epic for sure Josh. What a nice day to do that too. Damn
Do you get to do a bunch of practice runs for the track? I mean you would have to know it well on some of those turns made out of cones for sure.
How do you mount these cameras? Magnets?

I look forward to the day I can do this. I just dont see it super practical using a DD for tasks like this.

nope, no practice runs. The first one "is" for most people the practice run, but at most autocrosses if all is going well each run gets faster than the last (this event had 5 runs).

You do get about half an hour to walk the course beforehand (I ususally walk it at least 4 times), so you figure out the lines you want, problem areas, etc.

Camera has a suction cup mount, as well as a few clip-on mounts (front bumper, helmet) that I didn't use in that vid. Best piece of technology I've ever bought...and shoots in 1080i if you want to.

check it out for more details. Useful for other things too....case is waterproof to 200 feet so I use it for scuba as well.
