new SCCA auto-x Street Touring classing
new SCCA auto-x Street Touring classing
It's official. The SCCA finally acknowledged the dominance of the Honda Civic in Street Touring and re-classed everybody in an effort to encourage increased participation in the class.
Maxima A33, A32, and J30 move to STC, and A34 stays in STX. Although certainly not "compacts", our vehicles are now deemed too old to include in STF, the new generation of FWD cone carvers. Of course with mods you're welcome to compete with higher classes as before.

What do you suggest? Move it to STX? Then all the older GD chassis have the same argument. Most blame it on Subaru for so many great improvements in so little time. You're only guaranteed a place to play, not a chance in **** of winning.
The Mazdaspeed3, from what I have seen, runs just as fast as the 09+ wrx in everything except rain yet is still in STX.
Obviously everyone except the top dogs are going to complain about being in the wrong class. Which means I get to complain too
There is always a dominant chassis and there are always cars who don't have a snowballs chance when measured up against others in their ranks.
The only way to take care of that is to all but double the number of classes but then you end up seeing events with one or two cars running in some classes.
Its an unfair and unfun world and because of this I do crapcan endurance racing.

I really don't care that much anyhow, just *****ing lol. I haven't run SCCA in a couple seasons for that very reason. I run with other clubs (including BMW CCA) that run various classing/handicap systems - some of which work well, others that don't - but don't have SCCA classes - meaning I can build the car how I like it on the street (including tune) and not have to bump up to ridiculous SP or M classes as I would in SCCA.
I haven't actually won an event in my class in 2 years, but won the BMWCCA season series last year in one of their 4 non-BMW classes by consistently taking 2nd and 3rd places while other guys went 1st some events and 10th others....consistency won it.
Plus it seems that all the other clubs around here cost about half as much for membership and event fees as SCCA and are just as much fun and use alot of the same lots. So basically I've sworn off SCCA for the foreseeable future....especially with the stupid high season membership dues for DC region and the PITA nitpicky classing rules that take some of the fun out of building a car that is actually fun to drive.

Mark, even the newer Focus goes to STF too. I pulled last's years drivers from SCCA Chi, Mil, and TSSCC and all that remains in STC will be Imprezza, ZX2, Versa, Celica, and Rabbit. Easy to compete unless the Civic's from up north come down to play.
Just makes me sad as the class was rather fun with the group that was in it at least locally. Not like I would ever try to compete with the damn wishbone front suspension on those anemic Civics.
Was hoping to have a lot more fun last season until some family issues came up that had to be handled.
Need to improve the driver a lot. Did figure out that when I replaced the clutch I hadn't cleaned up the bellhousing to engine area enough which was causing a lot of wierd issues. I think that was when you were riding along with me that last time I was able to track it. Didn't have time to fix it that summer so was stuck driving a minivan or my 300zx until time freed up.
Still wish I could find somebody to bend my rear beam locally. Or just find a rust free GXE shell with no sunroof.

For all that effort just switch cars
Or throw 265/255 tires on the front, 205's on the rear, add Quaife, and run STX. That'll get you more than removing the sunroof and trying to cut the weight.
Except for the Civic's, STC should be fun again locally and even possible to win. Back in 02-04 competition was great vs Sentra, Accord, Imprezza, Prelude, Neon, Integra, Scirocco, RSX, etc. In '03 we had 40+ unique local drivers running the class. VQ torque is amazing against the smaller 4-bangers.

VW Jetta/Golf approved for STF
Street Touring
5. The following new listings, effective immediately upon publication, have been recommended by the STAC and approved by
the SEB:
Volkswagen Golf/Jetta TDI (’99-’06) STF (#5386)
Nissan 200SX SE-R (’95-’98) STC (#6444)
Nissan Sentra SE (’98-’99) STC (#6444)
Nissan Sentra SE (’00-’01) STC (#6444)
http://www.scca.com/assets/12-fastrack-march-solo.pdf
Somehow a '99 Jetta is considered "new" enough for inclusion into STF. Sounds like a strong precedent for somebody to lobby the A32 and A33 Maxima's into STF as well now...
