Jiffy Lube...Holy Crap
Jiffy Lube...Holy Crap
I decided to get my oil changed at the Lube during lunch today. I don't know why I did because I usually do it myself. But since I've moved out of my parents house I don't have anything to catch the oil.
I know. Lame.
So everything is pretty typical up the point where the guy getting my info starts spewing out about all additives they had (because I was a new customer) and how much it would cost ($50 for Syntec!). I was like, give me the cheap stuff, thinking it would be Halvoline or something, but ended up being some brand I've never heard of. I can't believe I took it. I used to be so happy about putting sythetic in my car. Arrgg...
Then a guy comes and gets me to tell me about servicing my car and what things needed to be done, all of which I knew about. Then the slow-witted peon tells me how he uses each item in his own car and that he really recommends me doing the same. And he wasn't even remarkable interested in telling me this, which made me believe they make all their people say the same thing.
God I'm never going back there again. Next time I'll just wait till after I get off work to change my oil. Like I used to do.

that sucks to hear
i am looking for a place to do my tranny flush and was going to go to Juffy Lube because I heard they had that machine that flushes all of the fluid out as opposed to most places who use the drain and fill technique to do the flush... Now I'm skeptical..

Dealer is better
Sorry to hear about your experience w/ Jiffy Lube, that is also why I don't go there, they also try to sucker me into spending more $$ for other services besides an oil change.
This is why I go to the dealer for oil changes (only $22)

I work at an oil change place like Jiffy Lube, and the only reason I would go to an oil place myself is for a tranny or radiator flush. The machine that we use for the tranny flushes takes out all of the old fluid, as opposed to just draining.
Re: Jiffy Lube...Holy Crap
The guy's just doin his job. There is no margin in oil changes. (that's why they use crap, unless you want to PAY for Castrol) My personal favorite is when the show you your "dirty" transmission fluid, and you dirty air filter. I have heard of more than one case where the drain plug was stripped out upon reinstalling. Remember the guy yoiu talk to at the front desk is the one who knows how to read AND write...

J LUBE MEMBER!!!
I work at jiffy lube in takoma park and i hear this type of **** with customers all the time! "U F...ED up MY CAR!" Heres the deal. the basic oil change is 30.99 plus tax at my location! our brand of oil is called union 76 which is the same as your regular motor oil. ITS NOT RECYCLED OIL!!!!! but here is where u get messed up!!! by not listening to the hood tech u missed out on the opporitunity to use penzoil castrol or quakerstate at an additional 4.50 all together! And for synthetic yeah it is very expensive but if you calculate ur regular oil change there at @ $32 or $33 then the synthetic oil change is only $30 more. about the price of a case of 6 at pepboys! i use all there additives in my max! i just recently did an engine flush, manual trans service, fuel injection cleaning, throttle snake head cleaning, synthetic oil change every 3000, radiator flush, and i always use a bottle to tx7 oil additive every 15,000! that is why at 110,000 miles my car still runs like its brand new! Just dont discriminate on them because u feel the job wasnt good enough! i can tell u myself the takoma park location takes pride in making there customers feel like they got what they paid for! i know because my dad is the GM!
Well, as long as I can get Castrol Syntec/High Milage in 5qt. jugs for $18, I won't be paying anyone $30 to do it.
I recently had a coupon from nissan for a $20 oil change. I was pretty happy about that...

I used to manage a Jiffy Lube
I worked there for about 6 months, and I HATED the job. Only reason I took it was because I was out of work for 4 weeks, and due to a screw up on the Marine Corps part, I couldn't get unemployment after I got layed off. Now that I got that off my chest, let me start by saying every lube store is different, some good, some bad. While I was at work, I can tell you for a FACT that they did a good job. If any customer came back and had a complaint, I personally took care of it, and fired more than one employee who didn't do the job right. I also had to deal with a daily basis, people who's cars would barely make it in the shop, then expect us to perform a miracle and fix there hunk of junk POS ford, that hadn't had service in the last 6 years. People would come in with thick sludge in the radiator, looking like some bad babyfood, and they start yelling 'NO! ALL I WANT IS A %^$&$%#! OIL CHANGE! All I did was try and tell the lady, I didn't even offer her anything! It was horrible. About two weeks later she came back, (it had started to get warmer out) complaining that her car was overheating, and trying to blame us! I hated going to work everyday! People would come in with mold growing on there carpets, "you guys didn't do a good job vacuuming my floors, can you do it again", and I would personally do it because I wouldn't ask another human being to touch it! We had people come in asking for us to help them with there emmisions test. After explaining that we could not, they would ASK for a fuel injector cleaning, then come back demading there money back after I told them it wouldn't help! I had one guy go on a tirade and cuss me out for a good 10 minutes because I refused to do a transmission flush on his dodge van, because A: It wasn't going to help him, and B: his lines were so rusted I couldn't get them off. He then insisted I break his lines and he would pay to fix them and not hold us liable... Yeah right I said, so he cussed me out for refusing to break his car! I was also reprimanded many times because I refused to 'Pressure Sell' items that customers didn't need. They way Jiffy Lube works, at least the franchise that I worked for, if you couldn't or wouldn't sell, they fired you, or found some reason to make you go away. Managers pay is based on sales, and they demand you make a certain amount a day over the base price, when I left we were up to $22 a day, with word of $25-30 going around... that means they expected the average ticket to be $55-60 PER PERSON PER DAY! If you didn't meet the goals, you didn't get any bonus, and would usually get demoted or moved really quickly. Those that made the ticket everyday were rewared with better stores and bigger bonuses. I couldn't take it anymore, had the oportunity to go back to school, so here I am now working part time for a good company and getting my degree. I am in no way sticking up for Jiffy Lube or there actions, just trying to give some insight as to why the employees act the way they do. When you offer a starting wage of $7, what kind of people do you expect to have working for you?
Re: I used to manage a Jiffy Lube
Amen brother, I Managed Store #855 for 5 years while in college. I fortunately had a great owner (franchise store), and did not care much for pressure sales. The shop I worked at only had a T/A of 37.00, but we were an 80-150 car per day shop. I have heard that the person who replaced me is holding a 60 dollar TA. F*ck that. According to some of the techs that worked there when I did. Many customers left when I did.
I hear ya on the "You touched it last" crap....

You might want to consider one of the Vavoline centers. They where pretty good with me. They also have the tranny flush system.

The only reason to use a Jiffy Lube or equivalent is convenience. If you want Synthetic Oil buy your own. Taget Store in CT sells Mobil One for $3.54/qt($17.50/change). The dealerships usually give you a better price if you bring your own oil and filter. Mine charged $14 for the oil change. The best jiffy lube could offer was $21. You have to make an appointment but I think it's worth the hassle.
