Threaten by the Dealer
Threaten by the Dealer
Today I went to the Nissan dealership to have my HID's on my 2k3se done. This was the DOT protection that everyone should have gotten who lives in NY,NY,CT.
Well, when I got there I met with one of the service folks who wrote down what I wanted to do and when I told him I had almost 15k miles on my car he asked me to do the service of 15k. I asked that I did not want that done but he argued with me and said that if I didn't have the 15k maintainence completed by any Nissan dealer, I would void the warranty of the car if something were to happen. So I ended up doing the 15k and paid $350.00 for it. Yeah, I definitely could have done it myself. It was like, replace cabin filter, oil, wipers, rotate tires, inspect brakes, fluids, and lubricate door hinges. This is easy stuff for any mechanically inclined person. It's not like changing a timing belt or chain.
Did anyone else have this problem? Does this really void the warranty if you don't follow the schedule maintainence?

I would write a complaint and go to another dealer. They lied to you, it doesn't void the warrenty if you refuse to do the 15k service with them. Personally, I would laugh and go to another dealer.
I never let dealer push me around~

Yea, sorry to hear that bro! I took my car yesterday to get the transverse change and the dealer told me about it also. I'm creeping up on 30k and they wanted $450 for the work. He said i didn't have to get it then, but he would suggest it, since it might "void the warranty". I nodded and put the flyer in my other hand and kept talking about why i was there. I took a look at the list later that day and noticed i had done all but a few things myself! HA! fat chance i'll be taking the max to get that work done!
On a side note, thought this was funny. While i was waiting to get the car back i was in the service lounge. They had a display with the microfilters, one really dirty and other bran-spanking new, with a small write up on where it is and blah, blah, blah. Well i ask the guy behind the counter if we could just wash them and reuse them and they ALLl said NO! I say, "oh, OK".....just then they call my name and i walk to the bay, cars ready. I get in, open my glove box and the first sentence on the inside sticker says.........."This vehicle is equiped with a washable in-cabin filter...." or something like that. I laugh and drive off!
THEY JUST LIKE TO ****** YOU FOR YOUR MONEY! Be smart!

So, if we look at the 15k maintenance (premium)...it basically consists of oil & filter, lubrication of locks, hinges, replacing air filter, wiper blades, rotating the tires...and visual inspection of a number of other things. So basically, the $350 you paid was mostly for labor.
I'd call Nissan Corp and complain to them and talk to the service manager. If they're cooperative, find another dealership.

The dealer where I bought my car tried that same bs with when I went in there to check my clutch, saying they could void my warranty because I hadn't been there for oil changes and didn't want to do the 15k service there. Total bs.
$350?????? Premium maintenance should cost at the most $165. Call Nissan Consumer Affairs immediately and report the dealership. That Dot recall should have been done regardless. And not performing the 15k maintenance at the dealership does not void your warranty. That's ridiculous.

my dealer did the same thing to me. i took my 2k in for a TSB on the tranny. they said they would not do the TSB unless i had the Transmission Fluid flushed first - with had nothing to do with TSB and problem i was having.
of course they wanted $120 for the flush. they also theatened me by saying i would be "negliticing" my car and they would void my warranty.
i *****ed and threatened to call Nissan Corp. and they gave in! sorry to hear you got burned!

skydaver got it right.
the Magnusson Moss Warranty ACtsprotects you in this situation.
Basically, if a dealer/manufacturer requires that you have routine maintenance done at their location they must provide you with this service for free!
They can specify standards for fluids, intervals etc. but cannot ID who will preform the service. Just make sure you have solid records if you don't use a dealer for these services.

no it will not void ur warranty period!
call 1800-nissan-1 and complain your *** away!!
see how quick they will refund your money!
I Agree , I've had nothing but very poor experience with nissan dealerships, all this makes me miss my 94 maxima which was Nissan dealership free , bought at 60K miles did all the work myself, could care less about any warrantys, but with my 2k2 , My first recal O2 Sensor, they did not plug the pipe from the motor to the air box, this is a 5 star nissan dealership.. second time i went to another dealership, they wanted to charge me for labor and **** me other work.. guy refused to a wheel alignment after a major saftey transverse link recall, i went back to the orignal recall. they wouldnt pass the safety inspection because i did not have HID headlights, wanted to charge me 400 for installation of harness , which i did myself and installed aftermarket projector lights got my inspection done at my honda dealership ... i've never had this much bull**** with my honda civic dealer then nissan, given they are ****ing scum of the earth as well , but once they knew i would question everything they stoped even trying to sell me bull**** cause my resposne was how do i DO IT? and thats exactly what now i ask my dealer , dont give me crap about voiding the warranty...
second do what i did, print out the TSB and hand those in, i did , out of 4 tsb's i got 3 of them , the hood viberation i will have him order the parts and do it myself.. force them do the work, call nissan, call nissan and call everyone and there mother, call the bbb, file a complaint.. raise hell and do not be afraid to scream and curse because these people are scum and you need to vent and its okay, your the ****ing customer its your ****ing right!
i flipped on poughkepise nissan when he wouldnt do the alignment, i walked out and took my car...
buy the parts online, and buy a chilton manual..

Yeah that's nuts, definitley complain. If they refuse to refund money I'd sue.
I'm glad that my dealership up here is one of the better ones. People come from miles around to have work done.
The only thing I can't stand is the price for labor. But the mechanics have to make a living too. So I only have my oil changed there and do my own work.

yea all the nissan service people in my area suck ***. they tried to have me replace my spark plugs. coppers for 4.50 each? come on? and labor was going to be $120 i laughed at him and i said i wanted to speak to your manager. i guess being a minority makes people a target for fast cash. lets just say i havent seen that guy at the dealership ever since.
