I just had a bad experience with JC Whitneys online ordering system. I ordered a pair a lugnuts from them a few days ago and shortly after realized that I ordered them in pairs of 4 instead of 5. Same size and color...it was an obvious mistake. I write them immediately by e-mail...they still haven't gotten back to me. (5 days later) The really bad part is that they already shipped out my order today...didn't even give me a confirmation e-mail or anything. I know because I called to fix it (I really need them) .. and they told me I had to buy another pair! Now I have to send back the old ones...and lose out on $10 shipping. It's non-refundable even though I sent the e-mail days ago... You'd think a place that does a lot of online ordering would check their e-mail....

I worked for JC Whitney in Chicago for several years. It used to be a family run company by some really great people. It was sold to a VC firm and some policies were subsequently changed..... this means less customer friendly I assume. They laid off what seems like nearly half of the staff at the corporate HQ so the amount of available support resources are not what they used to be. Anyway, the place used to be run extremely frugile and the Internet logistics were a wreck. I think a lot of that has changed and the systems are in far better check in terms of e-mails getting answered, not lost, inconsistencies in orders, etc...
Most of the people over there are great about customer service though and I think experiences like yours are more the exception than the rule. They have a call center downstate in LaSalle, IL (not India!) and you can visit their outlet store, right off of I-80.
If you have major issues just call 312-431-6000 and hit 0 for the operator. You can ask for the Internet Marketing department and this will get you right to the people who can really take care of your problems with ordering on the website. Note that your bypassing the normal "customer service" channel by going directly to the source.... please only use this if you have a major problem and if customer service does not get you anywhere.

I don't know. I ordered an emergency replacement belt from JC whitney and for 3 weeks I got no confirmation. I thought maybe I messed up and the order didn't go through. I placed the order and still got no confirmation. I then decided to call and they had my order in twice. The product was on back order, but I was never informed via e-mail or through any other method. The initial order was placed in late August and I still haven't received it. They claim they will ship by October 8, 2004. I will wait and see.
