Questions for the dealership...ask me
with respect to your new management trainee position, I hope you will be comfortable imparting special information to us that we might not otherwise know about that might assist us, though I would never want you to compromise professional discretion or otherwise put yourself at risk.
Ask away folks......
management trainee huh?
Even though I wont be car shopping for a long time since my vehicles are still new, here's something I always wondered about....
Since a dealer's average salesman is pretty much at the low end of that branch of the tree in the big picture, I would think that a lot of boundries are put on them about what they can and cant do, what to push for, what they can do on their own and what needs higher approval, etc by the managers. Now say they start dealing with a customer on a car. Do they already have a number in mind right from minute 1 for the lowest they can let the car go for then go from there to do anything they can to stay as far in front of it as possible? Or is the typical sales guy pretty much left in the dark only to get a yes or no from a manager depending on what is brought back to them.
If there is a make or break number, I'm sure it is probably different depending on the model vehicle and all, but about how low is it really for something really average, like not a hot item nor a model not doing well at all that people just arent buying? Like say a normal typically equipped 4cyl altima or something.
I just have always wondered if the salesman a customer is working directly with already knows the make or break number for a car right from the beginning before the games begin, or if that number is above his head at least initially untill the visits to the manger start iif not totally.

Id also be more than happy to help. though im not at a nissan dealer, im a dealer tech and would be willing to help anyone out.
as far as sales, each car has an invoice number based on the options, etc. the more the salesman can sell it to you for, the more he makes. its strictly commission.
and the airbags... different vehicles have different thresholds, but most cars take at LEAST 15mph directly head on to inflate the front modules. side and corner impacts usually wont do it.
