Are there any Canadians on this board who have purchased somethign from tire rack? rims? tires? both?

I'm considering buying a set of rims and tires there but notice they only ship via UPS, and I know from experience that UPS charges duties/taxes/customs on imported products from the U.S...When I ordered some clear corners UPS added $36 to the price!

Has anyone ordered from there and if so was there any additional charge added and if so how much?

thanks a lot

Yeah, I'm not very keen on ordering from the U.S. due to a) the hit from the exchange rate and b) the extra gouge that the courier charges for getting your package across the border. I'd be interested in responses to the TireRack subject as well.

I ordered rims+tires this week, should arrive in the next few days I'll let you know about the duties or tax if there is any.

When I ship to Canada I *usually* try and use USPS if the customer wants to save a few bucks. On larger items that USPS won't ship, I use Fed Ex Ground.

With UPS or Fed Ex there's usually a brokerage fee of $30-35 US dollars on top of the tariffs and all that other international order crap.

UPS is absolutley brutal and I vow to never use them again, there was $370 extra charges when I ordered 4 rims and tires. Absolutely terrible, even the UPS delvery men trash their own company and tell me to never bother with them.

Tirerack ships to many dealers in the states who then do the installs. If the exchange rate isn't going to bite you too much, and you don't live too far from the states, make arrangements with the installer who is closest to you and take a nice drive down. Customs isn't going to notice your ride has different wheels from when it past by just hours earlier.

How much of the $370 was actual duty (if any)? I know UPS charges duty (if applicable), brokerage, service, PST (if applicable), and GST. Just wondering if there's any duty on automobile parts.
