Advertising fee part of invoice price?

In trying to negotiate for a new maxima, I noticed that the dealer invoice price from Edmunds or Cardirect does not match the price sheet shown to me by the dealer. For a 2001 new max with auto + c/c package I got 22235.00 but they had 22737 on theirs. This is almost a 500 dollar difference. Upon close examination they have several hundred dollars of "advertising fee" paid to the manufacturer which accounted for the difference. I think they get this money back, so I told them they need to take this out and also deduct the 500 dollar incentive that is out now for the 2001 max and we should start there. They told me $21737 is their out of pocket. Who is
right? I think that advertising fee is what they called dealer holdback?

Thanks,

OT

Basicly if you want to buy a car from them then isnt the advertisement campaign working? Tell them instead of the fee your buying a car and that is worth much more.

The advertising fee is what Nissan Co. charges the local dealers for the advertising they do in their local market. Ever see those commercials on TV... well, Nissan makes the dealers pay their share.

Is it negotiable? Sure, everthing is, but some dealers take a harder line than others. It may be the difference of you getting the car or not.

Also, the fee is not reimbursed by Nissan Co. The holdback is 3% of dealer invoice.

Good luck. If interested, taka a look at this site. It's pretty informative:
