yeah, i saw that also.
the only reason I was there was because my dad said that my uncle has an old RX7 in good condition and we are going to visit him later this year, but i have no clue on how those engines work or anything related to them.

VIN number

Hmm...VIN numbers are readily available for anyone to see on the front dash. I find it scary that someone could get a key cut by only mentioning the VIN number and not showing proof of ownership.
From the story:

"Another key point is I knew this person had a 'hookup' at his local Mazda dealer, meaning he could get a key cut, using Ryan's VIN, without raising any suspicion."


In any case, with the Maxima (and most other cars), you can only get a new key cut if you have the key code. Someone lost one of my keys and I had to go through the process of getting a new key.

It's been speculated that the thief had some help from someone inside who could cut these types of keys. As for the VIN number being on the dash you have to remember it was a dummy that they were dealing with...
