Is WD40 safe to use on a car?

I got this stain (tree sap, I think) on the hood of my Max that refuses to come off. I tried washing it off with soap & water, bug & tar remover and nothing. Should I try WD40 and will it harm the paint?

Are you trying to take a "stain" out that has discoloured the paint and doesn't seem to come out, or are you still trying to remove the actual sap that's sitting on top of the paint?

I wonder if the 50/50 alcohol/waster spritzer might help?

I would advise against the WD...the solvents, the oil....no good.

I have used WD-40 to get stuff off my car. I works great, no harm to paint,no oily residue.

I used this stuff called GOO-GONE on my paint to take off adhesive left from the dealer applied sticker and it didn't hurt my paint.

One of the mechanics at the shop I go to saw that I waxed the car and kept it clean. He told me that WD40 works great for removing stuff for a white colored car. Haven't tried it on my car yet.
