My max is covered in...

My maxima is covered in these black spots, that look like poppy seeds. It happened at my house, because the house is covered in them also. No one can figure out what it is...

Ive tired goin to the auto car wash many times, they do NOT come off. Ive tried tar remover, 2 kinds, one from Nissan. Does NOT work. Ive been told to try rubbing compound, but I dont want to damage the paint anymore. Anyone have any ideas?? Im thinking of getting the exterior detailed at a shop. I dont know what else to do, it looks terrible.

Put your car into a large toaster. When poppy-seed-like crap gets toasted, it will come off easier.

try a clay bar. a construction crew re-asphalting the parking lot at the train station where I park decided to spray this liquid tar on the windiest day of the year and ended up covering every car in the lot with a fine black mist. it was disgusting. the only thing that took it off was the clay bar. i used one made by Mothers.

you should really try and track down the source of the problem before you go the effort of cleaning your car again.

hope that helps.

frack, yes you should wash the car first. the clay bar will remove any wax and/or polish you've applied as well as the impurities so you'll have to re-wax the car to protect the paint. you will not believe how smooth the paint feels after you clay the car.

Don't forget to have the surface wet when you use the bar. If the bar starts to stick to the paint as you use it, use more water. It is also better to have some car wash mixed into the water for extra lubrication.

Sounds like caterpiller feces. This summer the trees were infested with them. I had to sweep the driveway every week or it turned black with the stuff.

I found out the black dots were from my house's chimney, the heat had just started running, and the ashes & exhaust blew all over my car....oh well now i know for next year to keep the car in the garage this time of year... thanks for the advice, im gonna use the clay Bar to get it off, hopefully that will work.
