Are car washes safe yet?

Are some of these soft cloth car wash places ok for the paint on our cars? The brushes used to scratch the paint but i'm not sure about some of these newer places?

I usally just hand wash but with winter coming here in chicago i'm thinking of using automatic car washes.

thanks.

I think they will end up scratching your paint. I used to use them on my old accord and they get the dirt off which is great. But, I did notice some scratches afterwards. Most car washes we have here are touchless. Bad thing about that is that it doesn't really get the dirt off. But, since winter is coming it may have to do.

Personally I would still just go to a truly touchless wash if I HAD to. Newer car washes may have brushes that are soft, but who knows how clean they keep them? I wouldn't risk it.

NO they are not safe. Spinning brushes are DEATH to paint, but even the "soft cloth" ones are bad. Think about it: hundreds of dirty, poorly maintained cars passing through the wash every day. I wash with two buckets because I don't want to grind the dirt from MY car into my paint...you're talking about the dirt of hundreds of cars.

In the winter, I usually go and get a $10 handjob. No automated car wash for my cars.

That didn't sound right

I'm planning on going to the regular self-serve car washes that I always go to (since I live in an apartment). Even if you clean it, it'll just get dirty again, so just have a nice wax job done before the snow starts and stay away from automatic car washes Either clean it yourself or go to the hand-wash car washes
