I use 303 for the hoses. I also did some polishing of the aluminum lines, too....

To detail the engine bay i use Meguiars Extra all purpose cleaner then use Meguiars Natural Shine Protectant to use on engine hoses and covers. The engine bay looks awesome after this!

man...that looks awesome. What did you use to shine up the a/c lines? I started and it was taking forever with the eagle one polish I was using, did you sand or something? Also did you just paint over the cap on your washer fluid? or sand it first?

I use Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish for the lines. Put some on a rag and rub. Then I used a cotton buffing wheel on a Dremel. Shines up pretty nice, eh?

Yup, I painted all my caps red. No sanding, I removed them, washed them with Dawn, dried, then spray painted.

Heck yeah I would eat off that corner of your engine. I think I know what I am doing this weekend, Krylon also has that new paint out just for plastics, I will pick up a can. Also, I will get some of that Mothers polish.

Man those lines are blingin! Do u know if that stuff will work on the intake mani, and valve cover?? And how long will it shine like that? Will it ever get dull and fade?

The intake manifold is textured...I tried the Mother's on it and it didn't do anything. The manifold needs to be sanded to make it shine and that's a huge job. Not sure what your 99 valve cover is like. If it's smooth, maybe some chrome polish.

The aluminum lines will dull over time and need to be re-done once in a while, but it's not that hard to do.

303 is a protectant type spray...kinda like Armor-All, but much better. It has more of a matt finish and blocks UV rays. Works great on the interior as well as tires, hoses, door seals etc.

I used your method to clean up the aluminum lines a bit. It seemed to work a bit better for me if i used the dremel first. Then i used the polish on it. Came out pretty good i guess. Not too many alumin. lines to clean up though. They're not too easy to get to. At least to thoroughly clean anyways.

I also bought some plastic/vinyl protectant stuff. Kind of did sh*t all i think. oh well. For $1.45 i figured i would try it out. It might protect it, but doesnt do much for the shine. Probably could have just used armor all.

I think i might use my dremel to clean up some of the brass bolts and fittings in the engine bay. I was using #414 on the aluminum lines. It didnt seem to work as well on the bolts and other stuff that had a little more tarnish on it. Possibly cuz it was a bit worn by then. Do you think the #429 would work better? I'm talking about the valve cover, timing cover, and various brass fittings that have a green tarnish on them. What do you reccomend?

Use regular old Kiwi shoe polish on hoses and black plastics to keep them looking new as well without residue...and sand sand sand on the valve cover and timing cover and all and then use Mothers metal polish to look real sharp...thats how mine got cleaned and shined.

Heres some lines to the bits i'm talking about:

http://www.dremel.com/productdisplay...4&Color=CC9900

http://www.dremel.com/productdisplay...9&Color=CC9900

Basically they're the same thing. Only 1 is bigger.

WizzaMax: I might look into getting some sandpaper to smooth those parts out, so i can polish them. Thanks for the advice.

Yes the Mothers mag/aluminum polish will work on the valve cover. I did this by hand with it:

You can also use it for nice results on the timing chain cover too.

Oh and mine has stayed looking like this for many months now. I just polish it for a couple minutes once a month or so to keep it smooth and shiny.

Look at the gloss on those hoses there. No hand cleaning involved the last time I cleaned the engine bay, before snapping these pics. More pics on page 4 of my cardomain.

CD-2 engine cleaner/detailer kit. 2 bottles in that kit, and you get a show quality detail, after just a few touchups.
