I have a '02 Maxima and I have what I can only describe as "fog" on the inside (I think) of the headlights. Has anyone else had this happen to them/can you recommend something that will remove it? Thanks. Chris.

 

The headlight has to be disassembled to clean the inside of the lens. One org member had his done under warranty.

 

On other cars I've taken the headlight assembly out to clean it when that happens. I usually try to get as much water out as I can by using a J-cloth on a tooth brush. Wrap it around a tooth brush and push it through one of the sockets that the lights go in. Get as much water off the lens as possible.

Then a hair dryer on low heat. Blow warm air through the headlight to get all the moisture out. When it is completely dry you are ready for the last step.

Often the water gets in through small cracks in the assembly. Take a close look at all the seams around the light. Any thing that looks like it could leak should be sealed up. Silicone or whatever sealant you have handy will do.

Let it dry and re-assemble. Sometimes this fixes the problems. I'd say its a 50/50 shot. Good luck.

You may find that the outside of the lens is "fogged". I used some Mcguire's plastic polish with an electric buffer, and it fixed the problem.

 

Actually, that is a known condition for the '02-'03 Maxes. I didn't know there was a resolution for this.

 

i was told to use rubbing compound.. a 500 grit and 1000 grit..

 

for the inside...you can remove the bulb abd swab the inide with rubbing alcohol to evaporate all the moisture
and seal teh bulb ib next time with a small amount of dielectric grease.

from the outside, Blue Coral has a plastic/lexan cleaner available at many suto parts stores that works very well at removing haze and environmental buildup.
