Claybar windows as prep for tinting?
Claybar windows as prep for tinting?
I'm planning to get my windows tinted this month. Do you think it would be beneficial to claybar the inside of the windows? There are lines of crud that surround all of them (where they rest against the rubber seal when they are in the up position). I have competing theories about this, one is that it would be good because you are removing the maximum amount of crud. However, if the glass is too smooth, the glue might not hold as well (same principle as sanding primer before you paint). What do you guys think??
Hmm.... I've never heard about his before, but it couldn't hurt I suppose. Lighter fluid is a great, if strong, window cleaner too. The shop should clean off the glass themselves before applying the tint, but if you're worried about detail spray leaving any lasting coating on it, you can just use a car wash solution as your lube and wipe it down with water afterwards. Just be careful with the defroster lines if you go there.
IIRC, tint has a kind of glue that holds itself in, so I wouldn't worry about it not sticking. Besides, clay won't polish the glass and make it smooth on a microscopic scale like that anyway.
I'll be getting tint too in a month or so.
I wish I could get it done sooner, but I've been dragging my feet with fixing up my leather, so now the nice weather has kind of caught me off guard!
