engine cleaning
hi
What can i put on the hoses under the hood to make them shiny...i have Turtle Wax FORMULA 2001 for vinyl, rubber and plastic...i have herd of this working to make them look good i just wanna double check....
also what can i use on the other parts of the engine to make them shiny
The color of my car is white and the color of the strut towers are an "off white"...i've tried greesed lightning and that helped a little bit...i also tried waxing it but that didnt do much...is there anything i can put on it to get the color back...or any special way to put the degreeser on it....
for the rest of the engine should i use the greesed lightning to clean it? should i spray it off with a garden hose or just whipe it off?
thanks

I don't know anything about the "Formula 2001", but here's what I do.
I clean everything under the hood with a damp rag, to remove any loose dirt and dust. Then I use my tire shine to shine up the hoses. Rubber is rubber right? For any metal areas (cam cover, timing chain cover, AC lines...) I polish them with Mothers Mag and aluminum polish. It works really well, and I can get the metal as smooth as my paint. Beware, the polish will require a lot of elbow grease and time to get the metal looking good. If you stay with it, you can make everything look like chrome.
As for the paint under the hood...
Step 1: I wipe it down with a damp rag.
2. I wash the area with Dawn.
3. Rinse, and wash with car soap.
4. Clay
5. Polish and/or glaze. (I used Turtle Wax clear coat polish, and then Meguiars #7)
6. Wax with your favorite wax. (I like Meg's NXT)
After these steps, the paint under my hood is as shiny and smooth as the exterior paint.
Good luck
Paul
