How should i apply touch-up paint?
I have a huge key mark on the side of my car, and I'd like to use the touch-up paint i bought from the dealership to fix it. What do i need to do to apply it? Is there any sanding involved? I would really apreciate it if someone could give me some advice, or point me to a page or another thread that could help me out. Thanks.
Use a toothpick or butt end of a match to apply small amounts and light coats. Give www.langka.com a look to get rid of the blob.
My experience with Langka is that it was difficult to build up a bump with the TU paint. If you don't have a bump, then the excess TU paint will come off and still leave the nick or scratch. It does work pretty well if you follow the instructions carefully. It seems to work only with dealer supplied TU paint. If you get TU from a body shop after a repair, this will not work effectively.

I used the bottle with the brush on it. When I applied it, it settled into the chip (didn't fill). I would have to apply several times to build it up. It works okay, but requires a lot of patience. I still haven't quite figured out how to drip the langka onto vertical surfaces. As long as you can build it up, it would probably work. I haven't tried it on any large chips or long scratches. Go to www.langka.com. The sight might answer some other questions.
I tried a friends paint pen before and I didnt like it.
BTW I just ordered some Langka today- 2oz langka, clearcoat and brush, should be here in a week or so. Ill post what I think about it and also some before+after pix of a good size chip once I try it

I just tried Langka and heres what I have to say.
Langka does work in taking the paint blob down level BUT- for my pebble beige metallic, it makes it dull and darker color and seems to remove the metallic flakes from the touchup paint, leaving it flat and darker in color(only affects touchup paint, doesnt harm factory paint), im shure this stuff works with other colors but for CG2, it doesnt seem to come out good color wise.
SO, I decided to make up my own touchup paint method that gave me better results. It involves masking off the paint surrounding the chip, just cut tiny strips of masking tape and tape it at the edges of the chip, bordering the chip, Next use your touchup paint brush and lightly apply a very thin and even coat of paint, let it dry for a minute, remove masking tape to inspect. Keep repeating the process of masking and painting until the touchup paint is level with the factory paint, this may take several coats of paint. The trick is to mask it perfecty at the edge of the paint so you dont overlap the factory paint and also light even coats so you minimize brush marks.

Langka can darken the TU paint effect a bit from my experience on Sheer Silver in some situations. I think it just depends on the luck of the draw on the amount and placement of the metallic flecks in the paint. Be sure to shake the paint very well. I got excellent (near invisible unless very close) results with Langka on all my touchups except one that came out dark because I didn't shake the can well.
Instead of using a toothpick to apply the paint to small stone chips, try going to an art supply store. You can get a fine fine fine tipped brush for a couple bucks that does an excellent job. I think the one I got was a '00' size. It really is much better than a tooth pick. You have to have the right tools for the job.
