having maxima repainted, please look

Hey guys,

Long story short, my max was involved in an accident (while i wasn't even in the car)

The rear passenger side door was smushed.

I'm havint it replaced, as well as a whole new paint job. What should i tell the bodyshop, like should i request an extra clear coat, or anything specifec? I don't know alot about auto body work,b ut advice would be appreciated. I can pretty much have the maxima painted however i want. I am keeping the car black of course, I am having the grill painted black too.

makesure they remove all hte moldings and trims. ONE clear coat is plenty. You should take hte car to Tom in NJ, he knows whats up.

what did the total$$$ come to?

I want to repaint my car later down the road once something else happens to my car, that way insurance will pay for it. I just hate all the damn scatches on my car, makes me sad.

i did get 1500 in insurance money which went toward the car. The painting i'm getting done for free because the bodyshop is a client of my pops and they owe him apparantly : P

I imagine a good paintjob though would cost 5grand ish. I suppose I'm not getting the "entire" thing repainted, just parts that are real screwed up. On black it's real easy to match, so not really necessary. On some weirder colors i guess it's necessary.

Also, i think my next car-related purchase will be the xpel clear bra for the bumper, mirrors etc.

I hope that stuff takes well to polish and wax.

I gotta get some sort of digital camera to post pics! I'll get them up here somehow : ]

i got my max back, then prompt returned it. They did such a bad job painting, and it needed to be wet sanded. Not my problems to deal with. There were spots were some brown weird stuff was imbedded in the paint like a mist, and the paint was kinda hazed up and had some like spost were it seemed air bubbled were. Needles to say i was ****ed!!!

That $ucks, mjg. Too bad some places have trouble doing quality work.

Might the brown stuff be overspray from another vehicle's paint job?

hey, finally got my car back, and it looks OK.

There are a few parts here and there, where there is over spray (only on the trim edge, they got rid of most of it.

Is this something i can fix myself with wetsand? I absolutely refuse to bring my car back a 4th time.

Overall though, to an undiscerning eye, the car looks very good.

I guess i'm just being **** about it.

I'm gonna try and get a camera to share some pics by next week.

Sorry to hear about the crappy paint job. they they just merely respray the car, or did they strip the paint down first and started from scratch?

not totally sure myself, i'd have to ask. I guess the paint is growing on me. I have to live up to the fact the car isn't fresh and new anymore : /

After i get it under the wheel next month (they said wait a good month for the paint to cure) I'll make it beautiful again.

p.s
Your the dood from my ams 301 class right ? : P

I am considering painting my car too.

Has anyone heard of Earl Scheib Auto Painting?
It costs $200 to get a paint job done there which is pretty cheap right?

http://earlscheib.com/pro1.asp

Does it actually matter what level of a paint job you get? I could just polish and wax my car after for a shine right?

Also... what is clear coat and what does it do? :/

yup, right on the money. I thought your maxima looked pretty Pimpin - haha, i guess you are just a perfectionalist. Then again, it was like 9PM, so it's hard to see the little problems.

man i detailed peters car today (he has a 95 gold colored max)

Not exactly sure on the brand name color, but i truly made something beautiful out of a very abused car. I started at around 10:30 and finished up at 4:30

Did a 2 hour car scrub( his mr clean system, we used it up pretty much, plus dawn), 1 hour clay bar, then medernza intensive and final polish 2.

Then i put 2 coats of ps21 wax. I'll ask him to show you his car next class. It looks so good, i was real proud. The ricer at the car stereo place (he dropped me off) I show him the car, and the first thing the dork looks at his thehub caps.

Sometimes people deserve is a good smack! Yet man, i was pretty damn proud of the job i did.
