Those Darn Scratches!

My Majestic Blue 03 seems to get scratched by just looking at it! THe clearcoat scratches white and is difficult to polish out. Have used Maguire's Scratch Remover with some success as well as the "colored crayon and wax" stuff. Any miracle cures out there (other than not looking at the car!)?

To truely get the scratches out you have to use rubbing compounds with a rotary polisher. But I would leave that to professionals as you can easily do more damage than good with it if you are not experienced.

Miracles? No, sorry.....

If you already tried Meguiar's Scratch-X, GS27 is roughly equivalent, so don't bother.

Are these a lot of tiny, swirly, fine scratches (like from washing it wrong), or are they a few very large and scrape-like scratches (like from accidents)?

You usually have two options:

A) Mechanical help with a polisher of some type
B) Time and SWEAT

You might need a product stronger than the scratch remover as well, unless you used the stuff improperly and just applied it like a wax.

Covering them up usually does not last long, so everything I mentioned above involves actually removing them so that they do not come back.

Importantly, do you know how you are getting the scratches? If the scratches annoy you, you have GOT to figure this out and put a stop to it, otherwise you'll be back to square 1 in no time....

The scratches are coming from careless others... usually hitting me with their doors or scraping up against the car. The Meguiar's works very well, with some elbow grease, and usually removes most of the scratches but... it has some sort of wax/sealant that darkens the scratches and a few weeks later they're more noticeable. With the deeper scratches, a polishing compound (to remove the scratches) followed by the Meguiar's (to remove the scratches from the polishing compound) get's the job done.
