rinse should be the regular stream you used to wet the car and the autodry comes out as a fine mist. i like the whole autodry system. it works well

I have had the same problem and was very very dissapointed in this product. Keep in mind that I had a freekin orgasm when I first saw the commercial for this product! i love cars adn detailing!!!!

I tried it a few times making sure I followed the directions, and it never autodried like it said it would. I was crushed! I think I broke down and cried right in my driveway and then started hitting the bottle. But seriously, I really was dissapointed in this.

My car is black so anytime I don't have to touch the car I am happy. As you know it is a hard color to keep clean and more importantly swirl free.

I am glad to hear that it is wokring for others though, but for me I can't say the same.

That's too bad Dr. Monkey. I've used it twice and really like it.

Apparently, and forgive me if everyone already knows this, but the final spray that removes the spots is filtered water.

Minerals and sh*t in the water supply cause those spots, but the Mr. Clean device removes all of those.

I wonder if those who are having trouble with it have water supplies that can't be filtered enough?

(Still crying) I don't know if that is the case or not, but I just found that whenever I use it, the water takes forever to run off the car and dry. Does this happen to other people.

Keep in mind, I wax my car almost 2 to 3 times a month, so it's not because there is no wax on it. lol

I just can't seem to make this thing work right for me. I also found that using microfiber towels to dry my car off work great! Even better than a chamoi! I couldn't believe it at first, but wow, they are awsome and they sell them in bulk at the Price Club (Costco).

I rinse with the regular rinse first, and then turn on autodry... Make sure you get rid of the beading water... or else it will not dry... You know it will autodry when there is a flat plain of water on the surface.

well yeah, you almost have to...this way the autodry spray is only rinsing off tap water. It would be hard for that light mist to rinse tap water, dirt, and soap.

Dr. Monkey, a friend of mine detailed my car for me the other day and did some crazy 4-step wax process.

And guess what? The Autodry didn't work.

I guess you were on to something with your wax theory.

Here's what I did:

Rinsed it with the tap water, then squeeged it, then used the filtered water. It worked perfectly.

I haven't tried it yet, but i'm assuming it doesn't really work well for blk (or dark) colored cars.

The Autodry soap is essentially palmolive dishsoap, thats how they get it to sheet. The filetered water is so that should there be any spots that dont sheet well, it wont spot.

NOW, what they dont tell you is that the soap strips a good deal (if not all) of the wax on your car the first time you wash it. This is why the autodry part doesnt work well on detailed cars. It was intended for ppl who dont detail their cars and are too lazy for a hand wash.

Also, there seems to be some film that the soap leaves behind, so if you try to dry the car with a chamois (to touch up the spots that arent autodrying) it smears.

get it or not??

so the final verdict on this autodry is??? do not get it? or get it and buy microfiber cloth to dry? whats a good conclusion to this whole autodry thing, i was on the verge of buying it, but i decided to come here first....i never handwash my car cuz my black 97 se is never satisfied with how i clean it, i just dont know how to clean my car....i always leave spots, swirls, so i just end up going to the car wash for like 5 - 7 bucks to clean the exterior only....but my car is garage kept and if its in there for a few days i see a little bit of dust on the car, from the garage so i want to clean it all the time, but this autodry seemed like the best thing to do, i just connect it to my hose, spray clean, spray dry, and im outta there in a few minutes....but u guys are telling me that it doesnt work so well....

get it or not?

I would say don't get it, just buy some good microfiber towels to dry it with and you should never have spots. Remember not to wash and dry in the SUN!!!

Good luck buddy. If you need anything else please feel free to ask.

PS, go to Price Club or Costco to get the yellow microfiber towels in bulk! Gret price and great towels!

thanks a lot but the mr clean site is saying the complete opposite, wuts going on here lol, heres to the residue and wax stripping: "Mr. Clean AutoDry doesn't leave behind a film, just a thin layer of the Dry Rinse Polymer molecules that are replenished each time the car gets washed. These do not strip the wax, or harm the paint or clearcoat in any way."

okay i just got mr clean auto dry not too long ago and i tried it for the first time and nit was GREAT, wish everything was this easy, i bought two mits to clean the car, and i just wet the car, put soap on it, rubbed it up with the two mits on my hands, rinsed it all off, and then i just sprayed the mist on the car from front to back, back to front, left to right, then right to left.....and it dried just great, like i just came from the car wash, i love it.....and it took minutes to do....

oh and my max is super black...

I used it once. I thought it was more of a hassle to use then to just hand dry it. First of all that sprayer is huge and you'll have to remove your existing hose head to attach on the thing. Second, the car takes forever to dry so if you're planning to wax or polish, forget about it. By the time the car's done drying, a small amount of dust would've probably gotten on the car adn you wouldn't want to work it into the car. I'd rather give my baby the full treatment and spend a lil more time with her when's she's taking a bath

i only use it really quickly right after it rains, takes about 5-10 minutes total for me to do...and about 2 of those minutes is pulling the hose out...this isnt really for super detailing, its just like if a bird craps on ure car or it rained that day, just use it...nothing that serious...

I was going to start a new one but did a search and found this one. I was doubting if the thing would work but it dried spotless so I wanted to let everyone know it was worth the money to me. It only took 10mins to was and rinse the whole thing.

I can attest to that, the first couple of times i used Autodry the product performed flawlessly. After a wax i noticed that it didn't work as well anymore. Sure the spots were gone but for some reason the sheeting water dried up as sheets (imagine spots, only larger - 2' diameter or so). That got particularly annoying.

And this is even after following Mr. Clean's recommendation of washing panel by panel (e.g. soap, rinse, mist) before going over the car one more time with the rinse and mist.

These days i just follow-up the mist with a water blade and MF. At least i get consistent reproducible results with that.

I have heard that this stuff is acidic and will eat away the wax.

i heard that too, but even on the FAQ on the website it says it will not eat away or take away any wax, so who do we believe?

its not acidic, its basic. And yes, its essentially dish soap minus some of its harsher chemicals and has some extra sheeting agents in it.

Funny how I found this tonight and actually read an article earlier tonight in Consumer Reports (Sept. '04) about this product. Here's a brief description of their findings. They had 10 staffers use it to wash 19 vehicles (ughhhhh) Most reported very few or no water spots after use, even in areas with hard water. Six of the 10 said it did a better or much better job than their normal washing method, while three said it was about the same. I'm not sure what the other staffer said. Maybe he quit after having to wash 19 cars. lol

their bottom line:
if your vehicles appearance isn't a concern or you don't mind hand drying, you might not find the autodry worth the cost. But if you want to save time and some elbow grease without worrying about water spots, the AutoDry is an effective addition to your car washing kit.

Hope this helps. I will be adding to my box this weekend.

I think the product will start losing its effectiveness as the filter gets dirtier. So, if the water in your area has alot of deposits, it will get less effective faster. I don't think it is worth it because it goes through filters really fast and those filters cost the same as a cloth which you can wash and re-use. Anyways if you were so lazy to hand-dry your car, you wouldn't be hand washing it either.

hey bk1 (Nycmaximas.org), when i hand dry my car i wash use soap and rinse, and i use a drying cloth and i get nothing but water swirls and water spots, it looks worse than if i just left it dirty...the cleaning process wit autodry is still the same, its just the drying...according to that test above wit the 19 cars, 6 said better 3 said the same, none said worse....so why not?

Mr. Clean leaves a film after you wash with it.....thats how the autodry works. If you hand dry it, the film will leave streaks. This is why i dont recommend you use this product at all. It strips wax as well.

I use the California Water Blade, followed by a wipe down with a WWMF. I can't see how it could get much easier. I get no water spots, streaks, swirls or anything.

Like I said before, its really more of a money thing. The filters, soap, all begins to add up after a while. Just get yourself a nice carbrush, good soap, and a bucket. To dry, just drive fast.

I don't know, but i had a white car before. I never had a black car like yours TJ_Max. I think for black cars, they look good only when super duper clean. Maybe I had water spots, but I guess I didnt see them. My car tended to have a bird crap on it whenever I washed it anyways, I guess birds like white cars.
