Thoughts on Orbital Buffers?

Hey everyone,

I have a few orbital buffers 10in and 6in but the 6in is falling apart because i use it all the time. lol

What do you think is the best brand on the market, why, and where can I get one? I am looking for a 5 or 6in or maybe a little bigger.

ALSO, where is the best place to buy pads (foam, wool, cotton?)

Thanks everyone and have a wonderful day!

im pretty sure the majority of the memebers on here goin to say get a pc.
here my 1 cent
get a small one anywhere from 6-7in
with random orbital buffer you wont be able to do much but to apply your wax with it
that all i use mine for
use the foam pads because the cotton one will get hard due to all the wax residue that on it.
just use your hand and good microfiber towels to remove it.
i purchase mine from sears
but im sure if you search around you will be able to fine some other random orbital buffer/polisher around

Here's some quick info. Porter Cable 7336 or 7242 (or is it 7424 or 7224, I alwasy get them confused) one of those, they'll run about $110 and be the best detailing investment you make. Get the one with the 6 inch counter weight.

Next buy a velcro backing pad. This will allow you to change the type of pads you are using quickly and easily.

Last get some foam detailing pads, I use Lake County pads, but I have heard great stuff about the Meguiars stuff too. Wool for deep polishing, yellow for polishing, white for light polishing and black/gray for finishing/applying wax.

You should go to Autopia.org to learn all you want and more about detailing.

If you just want to buy, go to Autopia, or www.properautocare.com, where they'll have whole packages that will be cheaper, than buying seperately.

good luck,

You can get a PC 7424 for $119 from www.coastaltool.com. There is currently a deal going on there where you get both counterweights (5" and 6") and a free velcro backing plate, and a free polishing pad. I just ordered mine yesterday morning. Should arrive here on Monday.

if you go to autopia you can order a pc with sonus pad kit for $179. Apply the 10% discount for new members and you get everything for $161. Then all you need to do is decide on which products you want to go with. If you add them to your order you will save even more.

good luck,
I would never reccomend using wool. Truely, its yellow for a cutting pad, then its white for polishing, and black/grey for glaze.

Only use a cutting pad if you have severe swirl marks, and always start with the white pad to see if it works. Wool is just going to create more swirls if you have less experience, stick with foam.
