Preparations before winter.
Preparations before winter.
As the weather and season begins to change, I was wondering if there are any specific preparations some of you guys do to protect your cars from the elements. Being in an area which salt is used quite often, one thing I try to do is spray off the car every chance I get. But while the weather is still decent, I was curious to see if there is anything I should do to my car going into Fall and Winter.
Thanks in advance,

I will apply a layer of Klasse AIO to and follow that with 3 (hopefully) layers of SG. The acrylic is longer lasting and more durable than carnuba. My car made it through last winter very well with this combo.
Check your underbody and the lower panels for signs of rust. If you find any, either cover it up, or fix it. Either way, you don't want rusty spots to be exposed.
I'm going to go to town on my undercarriage with some cans of rust paint and undercoating next week. I'm debating whether I should spray undercoat or rustproofing oil on my corroding fuel lines though.

Put at least one layer of a durable sealant on like Klasse Sealant Glaze as Bluesbrekr mentioned, or Poorboy's EX-P. The protective layer should make the salt and dirty snow easier to remove from the paint.
Also, I sealed all of my door/hood/trunk jambs with EX-P. Actually, I even sealed my chrome muffler with EX-P cuz it just looks SO nice when it's clean!
One more thing: whenever you get a chance during the winter, spray out the wheelwells with a hose (as long as it's above freezing) and make sure to spray the painted area at the edge of the wheelwells. That area holds salt and mud, and the moisture/salt will eat away at your paint and cause your car to rust from the wheelwells outward.
If you don't want to drag out the hose during the winter, you can use a spray bottle with water, but it will take a lot more time, and your hands will probably be pretty sore afterwards.

Anyone know if S100 can last through the winter if multiple layers are applied?
I like to wash my car once a week or more in the winter. I just find the self-service places, and wash my car down with the high pressure hose, but I dont use the brush there (swirls would be introduced). I would figure the S100 would help the salt and snow come off the car easier.

S100 is more of a beauty wax. That is, it looks great but doesn't last all that long. To get through the winter, you'll need a durable sealant like Klasse SG, Poorboy's EX, EX-P, 4* UPP, etc... synthetics/acrylics are the way to go for long periods.
