How do I get rid of scrape marks?

Well, only owned the car less than a month and I've gone and gotten a scrape on the side. The worst part is that it was my own fault...

Anyway, I was hoping to get some advice. The scrape is probably 2-3 inches long, right on the the wheel well. Part of it is just superficial, but part actually went through the paint and the metal (or whatever the body there is made of) is exposed. I was wondering what to buy and what order to try to fix it in.

Should I wax the area first to try to fix the superfcicial scrapes? Or get touch up paint, touch it up, then wax it?

Also, where can I get touch up paint and where can I learn how to best apply it?

Thanks,
Reed

For the surface scrapes, you can try a cleaner wax and if that doesn't work (which it probably won't) you can pick up a small bottle of hand rubbing compound at your local Autozone or similar store. Try applying that on the surface scratches and make sure you follow the directions.

Your best bet however is to go to a professional detailer. I'm not sure how bad the scratches are, or how accessible the area is, but a detailer can usually either buff it out or in worse cases, wet sand it.

I would say touch up paint is a last resort because it is very difficult to apply touch up paint to areas of that length and not have it look obvious and strange. Hope this helped!

Thanks

Thanks for the advice. I drive POS cars my whole life and never do this, and then a month after I get the max I scrape it... oh well.

I appreciate the help. I'll take some before and after photos and document what I do to see if it will help anyone in the future.

I am sure a professional would do a much better job, but I gotta learn sometime and I bought the max to learn on, so I'll try.
