I cleaned my interior last summer. I used Autoglym Interior Shampoo on spots, and OxiClean + warm water on everything, everything supplemented with an upholstery scrub brush. It turned out very well. The first part I did was my driver's seat. I took this picture afterward just due to my amazement of how much cleaner it got.
The inside half was cleaned...(obviously)

I didn't take any more pictures, but the floormats showed similar results.

I use a carpet extractor to do a good, deep cleaning of the carpets and floormats in my car. I'd say they're too expensive to buy for just your own car, but you could always rent a Rug Doctor or other steam cleaning machine.

If not, I keep a bottle of OxyClean (like white95max said) and a scrub brush handy for spots and then go over them. GP (General Purpose) solutions such as Simple Green also work well on spots, but I'd only recommend that if you're using a wet vac after to vacuum the GP out. Good luck!

One thing I am considering is not even a specialty product. I am thinking about trying Woolite and OxiClean to clean carpets. For scrubbing, I want to get the PC mounted carpet brush.

I worked some "Shout" into my mats and put them in the washer and "WOW!", looked brand new and smelled great too. And Oh, the SHOUT was only $2.00. A great cleaning at a cheap price.

I have heard this method of sticking mats in the washer is very effective...I think I will try this my self.

Regular washer or front loader? I'm concerned the rubber nubs on the back side of the mats might scratch up the agitator bars on the inside of the washer.

That I am unsure of. We have a regular washer and I am just going to take a chance...not sure if I would with an '04 though.

Definitely worth it. I use mine everytime I do my mats. Not only does it scrub out the nasty stuff, but it also raises the nap so they don't look all matted and worn out.
I use my Thermax with the steam cleaning attachment and regular carpet cleaning solution you can buy in Wal Mart (the solution is diluted according to the directions, usually 2-4 ounces per gallon of water). I also mist the mat with Castrol Super Clean (diluted 4 parts water, 1 part CSC). Stains get a little extra spray of CSC, and a little more scrubbing with the PC if needed. I haven't had a stain not come out yet.
Honestly, with the PC and brush, you'll be amazed that old mats will literally look brand new. The brush is one of the best $13 or so I've spent on detailing stuff. I even use it on my house carpets on the high traffic areas (speaking of which, I steam cleaned half my living room tonight).

I used the a carpet cleaner on my mats, oxi is also very good. You could check out a local autozone or some car shop and check the racks they have plenty of company's that sell carpet/uplostery cleaners that really clean you stuff, I used the same thing from my carpet mats on my interior roof. WOW it was clean I smoke so you no my interior top was pretty dirty needless to say the carpet cleaner did the job!!

Go to the autoparts and get you some carpet cleaner with the scrub bruch top. Yellow/Red can, cant think of the name right now. Put them in your driveway and powernozzle them down, then spray the foam on and scrub away, then powernozzle them, repeat it, hang them up to dry. Been doing it for years, works like a champ. Scrub hard.
