clear coat on headlights
clear coat on headlights
tied to remove some scratches on my headlights using the the same methode i used on my foglight lenses, unfortunatly unlike my foglights there was a clearcoat on my headlights, there to protect the plastic from UV lighyt and provide some scratch resistance. so now there is a patch of exposed plastic w/o clearcoat that i am going to have to polish every couple of months.
anyone know of a clearcoat i could use to refinish the lens, that would provide some UV & scratch protection, or am i just going to have to live w/ this?

these are aftermarket headlights, but oem plastic lenses probably has it as well. the edge where the bare plastic meets the clearcoat can be seen, i didnt know what it was at first but after a little reasearch i found out that polycarbonate is pretty volitile when exposed and will typicaly yellow if not protected, there is a clearcoat applied to polycarbonate to protect it from UV and the enviroment,
I have never heard that headlights (OEM) are clearcoated. Like you said, the plastic will yellow or haze when exposed to environmental pollutants. I usually polish the headlights on every car I detail, with Mothers Plastic Polish because I frequently see yellowed or hazed headlights. The Mothers bottle specifically says it is "great for headlight covers".
