Sealant = Wax?
The only commonality that sealants and waxes have is that they both have no cleaning properties (except maybe NXT). However, many sealants are used as a last step product like waxes but the difference is durability.
Sometimes people (myself included) will top a sealant with waxes in order to add depth.

As said a sealant is a synthetic wax. They tend to last much longer (some up to 6 months). Some people like the look of just a sealant while others layer a wax on top or just use a wax and rewax more often...it's really about what you like.
If you are going for durablility, like over the winter, multiple layers of a sealant is definitely the way to go.
For the summer though, I prefer to top one layer of sealant with multiple layers of wax. I don't mind adding more layers of wax over the season. Carnauba waxes give the car a nicer look IMO, so while it's warm out, I prefer wax over sealant.

forgive my (mis)understanding. i thought that layering sealant, this 'disolves/cleans/removes' previous coat - since they are petro based.
i understand carnuba over sealants - as long as they are NOT the cleaner/wax catagory. somebody clear this newbie up plse.
A cleaner wax will remove previous layers of whatever is beneath it. To my knowledge,there are no true sealants that contain cleaners. The only one that might fit into this category is Meg's NXT Tech Wax. It is labeled as a sealant, even though the name contains "wax". NXT has some light cleaners in it, which may or may not remove the entire layer of whatever product is beneath it.
Layering sealants is a very effective way of increasing durability of your protection layer over a longer period of time, such as a winter season. If you have the ability to do so, I still recommend waxing your car a couple times during the winter. It increases your peace-of-mind knowing that your car is definitely still well-protected from the harsh elements of winter.

PrinzII, wouldn't it be better if you top off sealant w/ another coat of sealant instead of wax?

It would depend on the durability of the sealant. If it's a very durable sealant, the wax may not have much of an effect on it.
It would also depend on the amount/strength of the cleaners in the wax. A dedicated "cleaner wax" would likely have stronger cleaners than something like NXT.
