Mothers mag and aluminum polish.

Is Mothers mag and aluminum polish safe to use on 02-03 GLE wheels?

I can't say for certain, but I would bet they're clearcoated so treat them like your paint...wash, clean with a claybar and throw on a good sealant.

Yes they are almost certainly clearcoated, so use a paint polish on them. Mothers Mag/Alum polish is made for bare metal, not clearcoated metal.

So I am guessing this wouldn't be good for the AE wheels either....I am trying to find a product to take some scratches out of my polished rims.

No GoldenMax02, I highly doubt it. When I didn't know better, I used Mothers Mag/alum polish on my sawblades at least 5-6 times, and I still have a clearcoat left on mine.

And yes I'm pretty sure the AE rims are clearcoated as well. If my sawblades are, I don't see why any newer wheels would not be.

This can be used on clearcoated rims. I used it on the rims of a '87 Mark VII LSC with no problem whatsoever.

So what about the Mothers Billet polish as well Prinz? I noticed it was quite a bit more expensive but I just wanted to make sure I was not going to harm my AE wheels.

For any job, there are things that CAN be used, and there are things that SHOULD be used. Lacquer thinner CAN be used to wash your car (did it once to remove tar when I was ignorant about detailing) but car wash soap SHOULD be used. Most often, there is a half-*** way to do anything.

You can use metal polish on clearcoats, but paint polishes are made for use on clearcoats. If you care about whatever you're working on, use the correct product for that application.

I used mothers on my sawblades and then read the back of the can and it said something about it not being recommended for clearcoated metals or something like that.

I am getting a rainbow like effect on my wheels plus it look like oxidation is on them when the sun shines on them. They don't shine like they use to. Is that signs of clear coat damage? Also if it is, is there anything i can do to repair this or would i be better off purchasing new wheels?

I'm not sure what you mean by rainbow like effect. Can you get a picture of this?

It could possibly have been caused by the metal polish. How hard did you scrub the polish in? How many times have you used it on the wheels?

Ok i finally have pics of the wheels. The rainbow like effect doesn't really show in the pics but there are some of the nicks and fine scratches i got from using the polish. They still have somewhat of a shine on them but i definitely noticed a difference after using the polish. On the last pic i took a shot from afar and if you look the wheels somewhat have a clouldy look to them. What do yo guys think?

It's a halo effect. that comes from (at least when it comes to paint) using to aggressive a product, or to aggressive a technique. You might be able to get them back to normal with a rotary, but that would be a real PITA. You MIGHT have to live with it. The halo effect is caused my small micro abrasions. I woudl try autopia.org and see what they have to say. Good luck!
