brake dust removal

I got a set of 2k3 6 spoke alloy rims, but they are really dirty. It seems like a lot of brake dust have been baked into the rim and i can't scrub it off. Is there anything i can use to get the brake dust off the rims? They look really gray like they have been painted. Thanks

Black Magic Rim Cleaner. Its a fine fine polish that gets applied by hand. I tried it on my neighbours nasty Pontiac Grand Prix and got a couple years of braked dust buildup off the wheel. Looks like new.

You can also try a regular wheel cleaner with a wheel brush. With brake dust that is set into the wheel there is no spray on spray off solution that will work.

I've seen black magic at walmart / autozone .. I have black magic rim spray which u just spray onto the wheels and wash off. It works well if you do it every week, but for the most part, my spokes require hand-attention.

i'm going to see if i can find this black magic polish you recommend

Its not a polish like you would use on the paint. Its a cleaner with a fine fine fine abrasive (like 4000 grit) in it. It is specifically a rim cleaning product.

Looked high and low online, could only come up with this one link with a pic from Canadian Tire.

http://www.canadiantire.ca/assortmen...romSearch=true

It doesn't add shine or any coating to the wheels, just gets rid of any surface contaminants. I always put a coat of wax or two on my wheels after I use it.

i had a similar problem like this but with m3 rims. ended up wetsanding the rim with 400 grit sand paper and the black brake dust came off without a problem. then i sprayed it..looks like its been professionaly refinished..ps i tried the claying and the black magic and alot of other **** but nothing really worked

Clay is a lot more expensive than a $5 bottle of cleaner. The bottle I have has lasted me about 3 years now.

Its easier than you think.....get a bottle of Wheel Wax from some place like www.properautocare.com. You wont believe how powerful that stuff is, and it leaves behind a wax to prevent more buildup. Its clearcoat safe too.
