Rim Cleaner

I have the stock 5.5th gen GLE rims. When I washed my car this weekend I noticed that some of the brake residue wouldn't come off no matter how hard I rubbed it with the wire brush I normally use. I was wondering what kind of rim cleaner you guys recommend using and/or if you have any suggestions for me.

I had the same problem up until a few weeks ago. Well, its been ongoing, but I was finally tired of it. Anyway, I used this stuff http://store.yahoo.com/classic-motoring/wheelwax.html and it took everything off! I was thrilled at how easy the crap came off.

Like nite-stalker, I use an all purpose cleaner as well. Not Simple Green, but nearly as effective.

The hiv. Aids. lol The bottle says it kills it. No more worries about gettin the hiv from your wheels if you've driven through a bad part of town and gotten some fluids on them.

We use Spray Nine at work to clean and sanitize rental equipment (home medical stuff) when it's returned to the shop.

It seems a mojority of you make this detailing stuff more difficult than it needs to be. Straight Simple Green and a rag for me. Works great.

I've been usin Eagle One Mag Cleaner and it works wonders. You don't even have to do anything to the rears but spray on and hose off. The fronts need a little elbow grease and such, but when I get rims I'm gonna put a nice coat of wax on them first. Hopefully then, the fronts will be as easy to clean as the rears.

EDIT:ummm

Yep. I haven't done it personally yet, but it's been said you can blow the dust right off, or atleast just hose it off with water with no cleaning whatsoever.

and yes, that Wheel Wax works. It prevents the dust and dirt from bonding to the wheel. It doesnt "blow" off, but it comes off much easier. You can wipe it off with your hand.

OOPS is the best

If after cleaning your wheels, you notice small spots of brake dust residue that just won't come off, use OOPS Multi Purpose Remover:

http://www.homaxproducts.com/catalog/oopsmulti.html

I've used it on my Axis Hiros many times when I've gotten ground in brake dust. It DOES NOT harm the clearcoat, so its even safe for door jambs, inside the hood area, body panels etc.

It is much more powerful than SimpleGreen or any spray cleaner you can find out there.

That must be some serious stuff...Wonder if I can use it in the bedroom... haha... Do you have to wash off the wheels with water after or can you just use a rag to wipe em down?

Definately rinse with water afterwards. I also use it as a pre-soak for bugs on the front bumper/grill.

yeah, with all the cleaners i've seen in the stores it says to not leave on the wheel for more than 30 seconds. you must do one wheel at a time and you must hose it off.

well the Hot Rims did help but not soo much that I expected. I thought it's like 'wet-spray-wait-rinse-done' type but it's not ... it did help to get the black brake-dust off only when i used hands to clean it after washing is done

Worse of all, it took almost 3/4 of the bottle to clean all the 4 wheels and that's bad ... $5 for one use ?!? Well, they do look good now, but probably i should look for some kinda wheel wax so that it stays clean longer ... any suggestions ??
