Scratched dash and trim

Whats up everyone. I need some guidance... The the interior trim on my of Maxima SE is pretty darn scratched where the shifter is and the piece surrounding the radio controls...SOOOO... I was thinking of using 3M fine rubbing compound (hand application) and rub them away then buff. Afterwards I was seriously thinking about spraying the pieces with PLASTIKOTE clear finish, that way if any more scrathes occur i can treat them as if i were dealing with the paint on the exterior of my car. What do you guys think. Is this a stupid idea? Any suggestions will be appreciated.

THANKS in advance.

I wouldn't spray the trim with clear coat, it will look different than your other trim. If you have very scratched up trim, they sell a plastic trim spray that has the same finish as your stock plastic trim. You should be able to find it at any autoparts store.

The only pieces that i intend to spray would be the piece that is in wood in this pic (in my car it is the same color as the radio trim) and the radio trim.

Those are the only two pieces of that color in the Max. I will surely get the trim spray you mentioned. But wouldnt the clear coat provide somewhat of a protection against scratches...? After I am done, i anticipate it to have the same shine the wooden trim has in this pic.
