6 parts water to 1 part woolite, spray on towel, scrub lightly, vacuum. This can be used anywhere inside your car to clean.

Actually, you should spray that onto a towel and gently agitate. Too much moisture on the headliner will cause problems down the road.

Not to mention more mold.

You may even want to try a carpet extractor then use a hair dryer to dry it out.

Extractor = That could potentially weaken the glue.

So what is the best way to clean the headliner? I don't have stains perse but I'm trying to remove a smoke smell.

ha....i didn't realize that I originally posted this up 8 months ago!

I actually picked-up an aerosol can of Blue Coral Fabric/upholstery cleaner a few months ago at Peppy BOyz.

Works a charm, and smells REAL nice!!
Follow instructions on the can.

I have noticed that the dirt ring on the sunroof slide doesn't stay gone for long however.

I know this sounds nuts.....with two kids, I have had to learn the hard way. The miracle cure for headliners is .....prepare yourselves......Tide Pen. It is alcohol, and scrubber all in one, yet gentle enough to use on my last Nissan. (Haven't bought one for this Nissan yet).

I changed the in cabin filter and that didn't help much. The air that came out still smelled like monkey ****. I took off a cover that exposed the fresh air intake. Then sprayed Clorex odor remover w/ the up/bottom vents on, fresh air vent on and with the blower on full blast. So far it seemed to work.

It could also be from the build up in the evaporator core maybe? They make some good cleaning products to help clean the core out... I don't remember the names off-hand.

This product requires access to the core directly, as opposed to the method you used with spraying a cleaner into the cowl/intake area.

I was referring to my G35. But if your Maxima does indeed have one, it's located in or behind the glove box.
