How to get scratches out of leather...

Hey, i just discovered a 3 inch gouge in the leather in my backseat. Not a rip, but a scratch that's pretty noticeable. Can i use vinyl repairer for this? what would be some other solutions? I plan on reupholstering the leather sometime this year anyway, but I don't want my leather to look scratched.

Thanks.

what color are your seats? mine are black and had a few imperfections (several scratches about an inch to an inch and a half long). i mixed a small amount of black shoe polish and a small amount of leather conditioner (i used lexol) to thin out the polish and gently dabbed the mix over the scratches. i gave it a little while to dry (maybe 5 minutes) and then ran a clean cloth around the area to pick up any extra mix. this worked extremely well for me and the imperfections are 99.9% gone. (you'd really have to put your nose to the seat to see the scratches now.)

hope this helps!
