This is complete bull sh*t (rant)
This is complete bull sh*t (rant)
Warning, this is a rant. Dont want to hear it? Don't read it.
Look, I understand the 4th of July is a time to set off fireworks and let loose but wouldn't most agree that as adults we need to be responsible at the same time?
So people are letting off fireworks all night long, no problem right? I get up this morning to head back to work and see a ridiculous amount of firework casings spread all throughout my lawn (gotta love the neighbors who made sure they kept it entirely off of their own property).
Here's the bad part..... The c*cksuckers were letting off fireworks so close to my girlfriends car that there are burn marks all the way down to the metal all over the hood and side of her car. Luckily I keep my 6th gen parked in the garage but unfortunately for her I have another car so she parks in the driveway leaving her car vulnerable to the elements as well as dumb asses. Some people have absolutely no respect for other peoples property.
So I make sure to have her file a police report, and the police acted like oh well, you (she) didn't see them do it so there's nothing we can do. So now she's buying into that crap and being passive about it and talking about buying a new car because of someone else's irresponsibility. Sh*t, when I was a kid and did dumb sh*t you were guilty until proven innocent by the cops. Now as adults when you need them they act like they need DNA, a videotape, 10 eye witnesses and an all out admission of guilt from the criminal. WTF? I saw the guy with my own two eyes and he was the only one on my street lighting fireworks. The mess of fireworks is still laying in they guy's driveway and in the street right in front of his house.
How much work would it have been for them to knock on the door and say, hey we had a complaint about a damaged vehicle and coincidentally see a thousand burned fireworks in front of your house and no one else's, did you have anything to do with this? People are right, criminals have more rights than law abiding citizens. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a f*ck the police rant, just can't understand how people can be so careless and get away with it. I feel like taking a bat to this guy's car since apparently that's the only justice that's going to come out of this.

Well, it's just a car. Hell, my wife passed out in Autozone getting parts for me and ended up with a 1 inch gash on her chin with multiple bruises on her legs, jaw and shoulder. The car can be fixed so it ain't that bad.

good, now go talk to your neighbor. or sue him. but sueing him will look dumb if you don't talk to your neighbor first. Why complain about the police's lack of action if you aren't willing to take some initiative about it first? Your neighbors might not have realized there was anything wrong with what they did. Just ask nicely, if they're asses about it and refuse, then you can find a lawyer, or rant some more here.

sorry, i should've used a better tone. good luck with resolution.

Just re-read this and want to make it clear I don't want to end up sounding like I'm venting any of this on any .org member. I just figured of all places, a car website would be full of members who would be able to relate to a scenario like this when someone f*cks up one of your most prized posessions, your car. Don't mean to **** off or take it out on anyone. I hate it when something like this happens and you just have to sit at work and think about it rather than being able to freely make calls and speak to people in person and deal with it right away.

Thanks. While I was getting ready for work my gf took it upon herself to clean up the debri from the top of her car and lawn and put it in a big plastic bag. She was so pissed after she showed me the stuffed bag of fireworks that she went across the street and emptied the bag on the guy's lawn.
bump
So what happened? Did you talk to your neighbor about it?
I'm just now reading your story and it made me mad that someone would have the ignorance to do something like that. If your gf has full coverage insurance and a low deductible she might be able to claim it as vandalism.
I'm curious as to what the final outcome is...

One thing that annoys me is when a cop gets killed in the line of duty and the whole police force pulls out all the stops and does a massive manhunt to find the perp. But if a citizen get's mugged/raped/killed, they don't seem to care much-too busy writing speeding tickets.
I feel your pain and have been there before. I had my car get side-swiped while it was parked in the street one night. My car was white and I had a maroon paint streak down the LEFT side of my car (plus the dents and my mirror that was ripped off). Down the street, I noticed that there was a maroon Lincoln Continental with dents and a white paint streak down the RIGHT side. I call the cops and they come out to file a report. I told them about the other car and he goes and measures and, sure enough, the height of the paint streaks on both cars match! We knock on the guys door and to make a long story short, because this guys friends that were there said he had been home all night, the cop said there was nothing he could do! I had to fix the car at my expense.
Thanks for all your responses and understanding. I didn't bother with talking to the neighbor, he's a c*cksucker and taking him to small claims court would've been a long and drawn out task and figured my time would be spent better elsewhere. I decided to do one better and move.
I know some would think that's just a way to run away from problems and avoid confrontation but that couldn't be more of the opposite. This was one of the best things that's happened to me lately. I'll explain in a minute, let me give you some backround info first.
To make a long story short, I've had neighbor problems since I've moved in. I've lived there for 3 years and all but one have gone out of their way to make it a point not to acknowledge me when they see me. My neighbor to my left has kids that would leave their toys and what not draped across my lawn for me to pick up everyday for about a year when I first moved in. I got tired of acting like their daddy and telling them to be responsible and pick up after themselves and spoke with the mother several times about it. I understand kids have a short attention span and require guidance/discipline, so when the parents refused to teach or reprimand their kids I find it hard to not be upset with the parents more than the kids for repeatedly displaying a lack of respect for my property. This fireworks issue with the other neighbors was a first and last. Ironically, they have the most disciplined kid out of all of them, the parents turned out to be the problem. Another problem I've had is that my yard (no fence) is sort of a shortcut to another street and kids would ALWAYS use my yard as a shortcut and walk through or ride their bikes through my yard to save time. I hate that becuase I cut/trim/fertilize/water my yard religiously and can't stand people treating it like a back alley. I've wanted a fence for so long but after a few estimates, I never found the $$$ to do so.
My gf went out and bought a new car, just like that. I wish she would have discussed it with me first because I would've talked her into a Murano or something (she's the suv type) but it's her money so I support her purchase no matter what. So as I was saying, I was so pissed about them damaging her car I said that's it. Time to be proactive and get out of this neighborhood. I contacted the mortgage lender to see what I would qualify for and was approved for about double what I assumed. With good credit and good income, they basically said just tell us what you want to borrow and we'll make it happen. I'd mingled with the idea of moving but it took something like this for me to just get the ball rolling. I found a huge house in a great neighborhood, expensive yes, but no raggedy neighbors and property value appreciates much faster in this area.
It's a shame you have to spend a lot of money to live around people that give a damn about where they live (in my area) but the trade off is worth it to me. My gf needed a new car anyway and I've been wanting to move so this was a win-win. Again, I know what some are thinking that I'm being passive and cowardly but that's far from true. True, I'm "lowkey" but I won't hesitate to bring a grown man to tears if necessary. However, I saw an opportunity to turn a negative situation into an overwhelmingly possitive one and came out on top.
One other thing, by selling my house, I'm making enough to pay off my maxima!!!! No more $505 a month car payment. I'm actually saving money by buying this new house.

lowkey, congrats on your new house. It sounds like you thought everything through and made a good rational decision. yea $**t like that is hard to prove without actual videotape recording of the act. I still think that neighbor shouldn't get away with what he did to your gf's car...maybe smear a big handfull of vaseline all over his car windows. Especially the front window. No permanent damage, just a pain to clean off. Maybe a couple weeks after you move then he'll have no idea...
Or just let Karma handle it...
