Headlights + Goo-Gone = BAD

Out of the goodness of her heart, my sister decided she would do me a favor and clean my car. (She actually owed me money and I decided to knock off a hundred if she did.) Anyways as I was saying, she cleaned it pretty well, however she cleaned my headlights with Goo-Gone thinking that would make them shine again. The end result is that my headlights are heavily covered with scratches and blemishes.

Are there any solutions to get rid of this? I tried washing with various chemicals, letting water run, using polish, using a paste, but nothing seems to work.

Well if there aren't any solutions, can anyone suggest a place to get a set of headlights mildly cheap for a 98 max?

Why did she use Goo-Gone on the headlights?
Maybe light sanding might help

for cheap headlights check the for sale, junk yard, or ebay. Also your pretty nice to knock off $100 if she cleaned your car.

Tell her you're not knocking off $100 now, and that she needs to buy you new headlights instead

Googone probably wouldnt have done nothing on Glass, but since your lights are plastic, I assume its like hitting them with sandpaper... So, to remove it, use sandpaper..

Sand the lights down to a polish, im thinknig 800-2000grit and then throw on alot of plastic polish, or rubbing compound should work?

Most likely Novus plastic cleaner and then the polish will clean them up. A little easier to find would be the meguiars version, which should work as well.

+ 1. I recently used Goo-Gone to remove some tar on my headlights and after I was done I had a nice haze to show for it. I hit it with some plastic cleaner and then some polish and its was good as new again. Good luck to you.

Went to an autozone; they had these pads that I just hook onto my drill and it buffs up my headlight...

It does take effort, but it removes scratches as well. Its beginning to look as good as new.

I'd recommend the Novus for this particular issue. Start with Novus 3, go to Novus 2 and finish up with Novus 1.

Note to self : put goo-gone in garbage can. This stuff really doesn't do the miracles it used to do in the old days....

Mothers or Plastix

You can find the plastic polish online and it works very well on the headlights, taillights, side markers, etc. I bought both brands over the net and tested them against each other on my 4 wheeler. Since a 4 wheeler has plastic body panels, I figured these products would help clean them up. It worked pretty well on a sun bleached old 4 wheeler.

The Plastix brand worked a little better than the Mother's, but either one should clean up your headlights.
