Haze on the glass? That's weird. Are you cleaning your windows in direct sunlight? I clean my windows all the time with Windex and never get haze or streaking. Try an automotive grade window cleaner like Invisible Glass. http://www.properautocare.com/9116.html

That might be the problem. The sun might be drying the Windex before you get a chance to wipe it clean. I always wash, wax and dry my car, including the windows in shade.

stoners invisible glass works pretty good. Make sure you dont wipe off the cleaner with the wet part of the rag flip it over and use the dry side. Also take a razor blade and scrape them from time to time.

I've never had much luck with windex either. I wash my car and bring it in the garage, polish/wax and do the windows last so the glass has a chance to cool. I change the paper towels frequently and still get a lot of streaking, in fact my windows look dirtier after using windex. I just never thought it was a very good product. I get better results from just washing the car and making sure to dry the glass before the water starts to dry.

I personally like a damp terrycloth and a dry terrycloth to buff clean. On occasion I use Stoners.

Believe it or not, your windows will contain contaminents just like your paint. Clay will remove them.

There is also a how-to in the stickies for polishing windows.

While I haven't used a wax on my windows I have used AIO. The directions say to wipe your windows with the applicator after doing the car.

This is true. Also remember that glass is porous, just like a sponge. The detailing place I go to uses a scouring pad or fine steel wool to clean off really grimy stuff. Other than that, I usually just use water and newspapers.

Want to try something really different?

Newspaper and warm water, works wonders, trust me. No streaks and it doesn't cost you anything. Something in the paper itself attracts dirt.

I picked up some Invisible Glass this weekend and I didn't know glass could get so clean. Driving my car was like watching a movie in HD.

Here's a cheap but effective method....get some isopropyl alcohol from walmart or any hardware store and maix it about 50/50 with water...spray on yoour windows and squeegie off...the alcohol dissolves anything bad and is streak free...your $1 worth of alcohol will last you and extremely long time...

x2 on TsingTsaoNYC's comment

Believe it or not, NEWSPAPER is the key to less streaks and haze. No matter how crappy the cleaner if you use newspaper it will not streak or haze up. I learned this back in 99 when this bum in my friend's neighborhood would clean my car. It's one of the best automotive detailing tips I've ever had. Previous to that I ALWAYS had issues with streaking or haze on windows.

not to completely hijack this thread, but what would be a good method to get rid of waterspots on glass? I've tried vinegar and paint thinner to no avail.

Newspaper is the best to clean glass. You will not get any streaks.

Clean the outside of the glass when you wash the car. Otherwise, get some Stoner Invisible Glass and use that with a microfiber towel. After the windows are pretty clean, apply a cleaner wax to them. They'll be easier to clean next time.
I use Clearkote Vanilla Moose or Klasse AIO on mine.

To get rid of water spots, I would recommend using a glass polish like Zaino or Autoglym. If they are too severe, I would recommend trying the fine steel wool (0000).

If ya all want the secret.... it is to have two cloths prefferably 2 microfiber glass towels that are made for cleaning glass. Use one of them to clean the window with a product like invisible glass and use the other cloth to follow behind and wipe away remaining moisture. The key is to not use much product and dont leave aa bunch of product on the window or it will get the second cloth to wet and it will leave streaks.

Any questions shoot me an e-mail.

I see a lot of specks on the windshield in direct sunlight, and i am wondering if any of the above methods will be able to clean them up. I tried using a Auto glass cleaner from Strauss Auto and that did not help much. The grade #0000 steel wool method seems to make sense but i wanted to get feedback from anyone who used AutoGlym and if it can clean the specs.

My windshield is really clean in a way that when driving in rain, water droplets on the windshield just slide off and i don't even use the wipers to clear the glass. I only notice the specks wen driving in direct sunlight and it is driving me crazy.

The specks in your windshield are pits from stones. They will not come off with a glass cleaner. You may have some specks that are things that are stuck in the glass, that might be removed by clay. Otherwise you have two choices:
Live with it
Buy a new windshield

I see thousands of specks (sort of shining particles) and i doubt there are so many pits from stones, Although i can feel a couple of the pits with my fingers. Maybe i will try using clay and see if that helps. Thanks white95max.

I would think that any hardware store would carry it, or any store with a hardware department for that matter. Any place that carries steel wool should have several grades of it.

Paint store like Sherwin Williams, 6 pack for $1.59, like white95max says they carry every grade possible.
