There's a lot of info on this topic in this forum. I'll tell you what I'd do, but I suggest you look through the posts to find more detailed info.

Wash- Maguiers Gold Class. Some use Dawn to supposedly strip the wax, but the polish will do that.
Clay Bar- many different brands
Polish (may take 2 types depending on how bad the paint is) I use Menzerna, but there are a lot of others.
Wax- S100 (or Souveran if you want to spend more $$)

The key thing before you undertake this project is to figure out how bad the paint is. do you have a lot of scratches or swirl marks? Water spots? Bird bomb etching? Once you determine that, you determine which polish you will need to take it out.

Ok, say I have some of all you mention, nothing too bad, but noticable when you really look. What polish would do the trick?

I'm also a little fuzzy on the order here: clay bar, polish, wax, polymer sealant? Or should the order be different? I don't want to repeat past detailing errors and appreciate the feedback!

^^ Exactly what you need to order. For your situation, I would recommend either of the following polishes:

- Meguiar's #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish
- Poorboys SSR 2.5 and SSR 1
- Sonus SFX-1, 2, and 3
- Menzerna Intensive and Final Polish

Bear in mind, many of the above require a machine to work effectively. If this is your first foray, I recommend purchasing a PC and pads. Case in point, Porter Cable 7424 Polisher and Pads.
