Claying with a 7424

Sup everyone.

After much reading in the detailing forum I decided to pick myself up a 7424 to apply some wax before winter. Polishing-waxing will take place early spring.

So my plan is to clay and wax.

I picked up one of these to clay with:

along with some PolyClay II and lubricant.

Anyone used one of these before? How were the results?

It seems like this would take more time than just doing it by hand.

Yeah I used it recently on my 94 and 02 maximas. It was the first time I had ever clayed a car. I thought the results were good, both cars turned out nice and smooth.

I just finished detailing my girlfriends car and I clayed her car by hand. I thought the results were probably the same. Although when using the clay with the PC the clay seemed to be a lot dirtier, but that could have been cause the paint had more contaminates.

I don't think it took any more time doing it either way.

I wouldn't use it. When claying you need to continually check for contaminates and fold over the clay bar to cover them up.

I think this would be more difficult than just doing it by hand (taking it in and out of the pad to fold over) and you would likely be tempted to run it too long without checking for things that could scratch the paint.
