Dirt under the Teflon Coating
Dirt under the Teflon Coating
I bought my "new" 2005 Nissan Maxima after the dealer used it as a demo. They put 5,000 miles on it and then sold it to me. Well, I got a killer deal on the price. And I thought it wise to add the teflon paint sealant to the car to keep it protected for a long time. But washing the car by hand the past 2 or 3 times I think I've noticed little dots of dirt that I can't clean. Sort of like a bug gut spot that won't wipe away. Now I'm starting to wonder if it's under the teflon coating.
A few questions:
Could the dealer not have prepped the car well enough before applying the teflon sealant?
Or can the sealant be applied over dirt so that the dirt can't be cleaned off?
What would be my appropriate course of action to clean off the stains? Is it my problem, or should I take matters up with the dealership since they applied it?

yes, they could have applied something over dirt or particles, but you can clay it should clean right up including removing your teflon sealant
"stains"? Wash car to clean
If your not satisfied then take it back
Sealants, teflon or not can be bought and applied by yourself and done properly can help maintain the look for longer than just a wax.
Just curious, how much did you pay and how long is it supposed to last?
I work at a dealer and we just started offering the Simoniz sealant. I would just take it back because I think there is some type of guarantee that comes with it. We charge $500 for the sealant and I honestly dont think its worth it. It can be done yourself for much cheaper, its just a liquid, teflon based wax that they apply over regualr wax. I have seen the wash guys apply it and its nothing special. The only way I see the $500 worth it is the guarantee they offer which I think it is 5 years?
Its not the clearcoat, its whatever sealant they applied at the dealer.
Try to clay the car and see if that works. Like said earlier, the car probably wasnt prepped well enough.
Is it really $500? Thats insane
