Anyone else have this problem (arm rest issue)

Either some dye from my jacket must have rubbed off on my driver's side armrest or the vinyl paint itself is worn off on the edge.

Does anyone know where to get matching vinyl paint? I've tried to clean the area with everything I could but it won't budge, so I need to touch it up. I called my Nissan dealer but they didn't have any.

Also think this might work on my gear shift where the dye is worn off in two spots!

I guess you have black interior? If it's under 12K, see if the dealer will fix/replace that.

Nope...it's the grey, and I'm at 16K miles.

Oh!? I have gray too w/ almost the same mileage and not noticing any differences. I do have my elbow/arm on it almost all the time. I'll take a closer look at mine.

I thought others brought this up before, but I can't find a thread.

This might do better in the detailing forum.
Try to clean it with a damp soapy rag.

I treat my leather with Windex exclusively, dont laugh, nothing cuts grease and soil from clothing off without leaving any damage as easilly as Windex. I start with a clean T-Shirt and end up getting all the filth off, and I can see it dirty up the rag. I have no places where the leather has worn away or that I can't get clean. I hate the residue left my Lexol, so I stopped using it and just give it a once over with windex every few months.

My dealer is about a 40 minute drive away. I guess I could phone them first to see what they could do but my gut tells me nothing.

I guess it is worth a shot though.

Thanks.

Leather is supposed to have natural oils, which keeps it supple. I hope you treat it with conditioner after you strip it of everything.

You took the words out of my mouth dj. Cleaning leather with Windex is equivalent to you taking a bath in the stuff. I would definitely advise using a decent leather cleaner or diluted APC (All purpose cleaner) to remove any stains and then follow up with a very good conditioner.

Yikes! Windex on leather? Im not a leather expert but I think you have pinpointed the cause. Wish I knew some advice as to how to get it back to to normal. Sorry man.

Or just get aftermarket armrest, shift and E-brake boot covers.

I had the same thing happen to me, the dye from my leather jacket came off on my arm rest and center console. It came off with armorall and woolite but it took a while.

Wallmart has vinyl/leather repair kit, mix and match your own color to match perfect, works pretty good just follow instructions.

I would reccomend buying a new armrest cover from a dealer. Might be a lot of $$$, but you will be unhappy with the results of "Vinyl Paint", which will also rub off and look weird.
