meguiar's scratch-x

detailed my car and my goal was to remove the bird and water etchings on the hood, when i glide my hand over the etchings and spots i don't feel them at all. I used meguiars color x to remove the etchings but it failed. So now, i guess i have to buy scratch x. Can this be used on certain spots only? will it remove alot of clear coat or it all depends on what applicator pad used and how much pressure is applied? i use the white pads. also there are lots of spider web swirl marks on the hood, want to get rid of this as well...my detailing process went like this

- wash, using meguiars gold shampoo
- dry, using 100% cotton towels
- polish/cleaner, using color x
- sealant, using mothers sealant and glaze
- wax, using meguiars gold class liquid wax

someone told me that the meguiars gold glass sheets water not bead it...so does that mean when it rains it will sheet? lol. ive been using zymol wax whenever i wax and this was the first time i used the meguiars gold class liquid wax.

Looks like you got the info you needed on MOL. http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/sho...threadid=11459

I'd trade out those 100% cotton towels for some microfiber towels, you'll be much happier.

Do you have any Clay? It'll help prep the surface prior to the polish.

I agree with above. Use clay bar after washing, then use polish/wax. I use gold class swirl remover and gold class liquid wax and it works great. It does bead. I also use the scratch-x on problem areas. I had bird poo on my wing that left a mark after I washed it off. I used about 3 applications of scratch-x and I can't tell that it ever happened. Also, I've had no problems with clear coat. That's just my experience.

I haven't used Scratch-X on the whole car, but I have used it on the hood and the bumpers with no problems. It probably wouldn't hurt to use it on the whole car, depending on how much help the paint needs, as long as you wax afterward. I have had good luck with Gold Class Swirl Remover which would be a little less aggressive than Scratch-X. IMO

I've used Scratch-X by hand on some problem areas. Seems to work well, but can be pretty abrasive if you use to much pressure. (especially on black) I had to follow it up with some Menzerna FP to remove the marring and restore the shine.

I just polished and waxed my black Maxima on Saturday. I used Scratch-x on the hood trunck and bumpers with no problems (applied and removed by hand). I don't think that it that aggressive. Just my opinion and experience.
