Meguiars Step 2 POLISH

Anybody on here use this product? I plan to do a full on wash/clay/polish/wax for my car this summer....I already have a mothers clay bar, Meguiars NXT Wax....all I'm missing is a polish....is the Meguiars Step 2 Polish a good buy?

Also, I heard something about polishes being harsh on the paint? And its only recommended to polish twice a year? More info on this subject will be greatly appreciated!

It works well. I've only used it on my gray third gen, it gives it a nice reflection, though its slightly more difficult that normal to remove.

do you have any information regarding the harshness of this polish? Should I polish only once a year? Is this polish weak enuff that I can go ahead and polish every other car wash? etc...

steven, we are in the same situation right now. I also just bought the Mother's Clay, Meguiars Stage 2 Polish and NXT wax. I am going to detail tomorrow, I'll let you know the results.

I like the convinience of going to a store and getting everything I need, even if it is not the best quality. I don't want to wait for online orders fro Zaino or something...

And no orbital, hand power with a MC cloth!

same here, i'm not a detailing freak...i'm actually contemplating if i should even polish my car....cuz I've clayed/waxed once...and the results were amazing....i'm sure it could get better, but it already met my satisfaction....so yeah

as long as my car looks presentable, i'm okay...it doesn't have to be blingin every angle you look at it...

If you're talking about the Meg's 3 step system: step 2 polish, then it really doesn't do a whole lot. No abbrasiveness whatsoever. I would say doing the step 1 cleaner polish would better suit your needs. I've used the three step system, and really can't say much about it. It got the car CLEAN, but as far as polishing ability, it was almost nil. If you're looking for removing paint imperfections, it just won't happen with the Meg's DC system. It is good, however, if you want to clean your paint.

that is nice but the question is how many time can you polish in a year if the polish you are using is not harsh.

Hmmm, well I actually spent 2 hours yesterday changing out my brakes and didn't get a chance to detail since the torque members really took some strength. Will let you know when I recover

I agree. I thought it was just me having so much trouble taking the residue off. Anyone have some recommendations on a polish that is easier to remove and gives good results? I was thinking about trying Sonus SFX-3.

SFX-3 is more of a finishing product. I'd give either the Autoglym Super Resin Polish or Meg's #9 Swirl Remover a try. They would be more suited for hand application as they contain large amounts of fillers. If you want cutting power that will remove oxidation easily you'd want to move up to something like Meg's OTC #2 Fine-Cut Cleaner or use SSR1.

Also, as far as removing any kind of polish, it should really be a apply/work in/remove process. You shouldn't be left with a full car to remove the polish from. I agree with Bonka though.

So if the step 2 is not a very good polish, what do you guys recommend for post-claybar THAT CAN BE BOUGHT IN A CAR STORE? The Meguiars Step 1 removes oxidation as well, and Turtle Wax had a couple polishes too.

You can buy some of the 3M products OTC, but I have no first hand experience with them.
The step 1 is more of a true polish, and will do more than the step 2 "polish".

A lot of the Meg's should be OTC like (from mild to strong),

Show Car Glaze #7, Swirl Remover #9, Fine-Cut Cleaner #2, DACP #83. I'd definitely use the last 2 for any sort of aggressiveness.

Are there OTC clay bars available? I went to advance and they just had a KIT. Does autozone have the bar by itself?

Everytime I stop by autozone or whatevre....I only find the claybar kits...I can't find the bar itself...I mean, I already bought the mothers claybar kit...I still got plenty of lubricant left...and even if I ran out, I believe regular water with car soap would do just fine as a lubricant? I don't wanna pay another $15-$20 for a whole KIT....

so I believe you are out of luck....in terms of buying just the bar....however, prinzII did say something about going to walmart and buying the cheap black magic clay kit for like $9?

Yes you can absolutely use carwash as the lubricant. I personally prefer it over detailer's spray.

Hello everyone. Im new to this site..this site is really good. i have used the 3m stuff... you need the rubbing compound and the swirl remover.. they come in green bottles.... they work awesome.. then you can add the meguiars wax... i personally like the black one.. i cant remember what it is called.. then top it off with some quick mist also from meguiars.. not the quick wax.. the mist only.. youll be set.. btw, you can find 3m products otc sometimes at autozone or kragen.. i have had more luck with kragen even though im more of an autozone kinda person. if you cant find it then go to a professional paint store.. im from so cal.. i know a few spots... anyways...yesterday i just used the macguiars cleaner wax.... it works gooooooood if u want it quick and easy.. it does all three in one...my black 00 i30 looks good just after doing the cleaner.. i still need the swirl remover and wax... mcquiars is good... i like 3m a little bit better for rubbing compound and swirl remover though.. just FYI
