Painting the wiper arms

Hi

My 4th gen's wiper arm paint is starting to come off and exposing the bare metal behind it. I want to paint them black again.

So:

1. What paint should I use?
2. Where can I buy this paint
3. Do I have to sand down the wiper?

Thanks
Sunny

I would. Make a nice surface for the paint.

Ok, so if I sand it down will the paint stick properly to the metal behind it or do I have to put down a primer on the arms?

You can primer it if you want. Doesnt really matter.

i did not sand or primer. i just sprayed on a flat black spray pain by krylon and it looks like new. just cover the surrounding areas of ur car. IE:hood and windsheild to prevent overspray if u do not remove the arms from the car.

taking them off is much safer than trying to mask the other stuff off.

First off I have to disagree about not taking care of the prep work first. If you want a good finish that is going to last then you need to prep it first.

Take them off by taking that little cap off the base of the wiper. It's easier to get to if the hood is open. When you take off that cap you'll see the nut that holds it in place. Press down on the wiper arm to flatten it out and remove the nut and wiggle it up and off.

Sand it completely down with light sand paper to get a smooth feel.
Rustolm Metals paint is good. They have both primers and paints.
Lay the primer and you'll see where you missed with your sanding. Even out and respray with the primer. After it is dry you can paint it out to the color of your choice.

If you don't prep your going to end up doing it again in the long run.

If you want to paint the vent panel here is the pic for that too. It shows you how to take it off. This is for my 5.5 so I'm not sure if it's exactly the same. However, it shouldn't be too different. Let me know if you need anything else.

The red squars are just "plugged in." All you have to do is gently pull up on it. The arrows point to little black pins that you can remove with a flat headscrew driver. The one on the drivers side is a small phillips head screw. The part that rest on the glass and acts like a gasket can be taken off too. Just make sure you've got some glue to put it back on after you get done painting it. DON'T PAINT IT WITH IT ON THERE. One it will look like azz, two it has to rest back on the glass to prevent water from going in between.
