how hard is it to prep hood for paint?

So I would like to get my hood repainted...I'm thinking of taking it to the shop...so they can paint it, and color match it...but I'll do the preparing myself...

is it worth the money to prepare the hood myself? I'm not sure whats involved, but what exactly do you do, to prepare the hood for paint? Thanks in advance!

i would take some 320 grit sand paper and just make sure u get all the clear coat off of it.....now are u trying to primer it first and then get it painted or just paint only?

i'm not sure how the whole process works? but what do body shops normally do, when they paint hoods? whats the difference if i primer it, and not?

Prep is a very important part of the painting process and I cant really say though how much money you'll save.

painting the hood isnt hard at all....im sure if u had a paint gun and a air compressor you can do it yourself after a few practice rounds on something else of course.....but as far as i know all you have to do is just take the clear coat off the the hood with 320 grit can will do the job and then just wet sand that so its nice and smooth and then make sure you wipe down the hood thouroly so theres no dust or anything and its ready for paint....im sure if u take it to the body shop they will wipe it down and everything but its really not hard just make sure u do a good prep work....
