Do not use ICE!!!
Do not use ICE!!!
i just picked up some turtlewax ICE in paste form....this crap is TERRIBLE... i'm about to shoot myself...
it goes on like a normal wax, and even smells good...but it dries very very fast...and when i had to go inside to the restroom and came back out..its allready dried... which is fine cuz usually you let it dry to a haze anyway, and most waxes rub right off with just a little elbow grease.
NO, not this stuff...this stuff came off like bubblegum stuck on the side of the car.. i kid you not, there is no amount of elbow grease that can get everything off in one whole day... this stuff is just really weird...i dont get it. the only way i'll be able to get it off now is to use my electric buffer, which i just bought because of this incident.... also, it leaves blue stains in the paint that do not come off without an electric buffer and some polishing compound..
IMO Turtlewax ICE was a total waste of money...but most of all, its was a waste of hours of my time and energy.
disclaimer: this is my experience...i'm not claiming anything against Turtlewax, i'm just lettin you know what my experience was with the stuff..

no it was in shade...it was outside during the day but i was on one side of a large apartment building and the whole building created a huge shadow where the sun was behind it...the guy next to me was waxing his f-150 also, but he was using a spray on wax... but ya, i know about the direct sunlight thing...i never do that. seriously, i've waxed my cars hundreds of times, and theres something really fishy about this one... i shoulda just stuck with meguires...
It's not the light that'll mess it up, but the heat that will. Waxing your car in the direct sunlight is fine if it's the middle of the winter, but if your car is burning from the summer heat, then you shouldnt be doing anything to it.
ya, i know thats what it said on the jar, that you can put it on direct sunlight...but after a while of investigating it and inspecting my car over and over with the opinion of a few detailers, what had happened was that the ICE wax in paste form is a blue color and contains some really weird synthetic chemicals, and that you have to put it on in a very thin layer. if there is excess wax on the car, then the blue will bleed into the paint and stain your car.. i have blue stains on my front fender, bumper and rear bumper and trunk lid...
and they did not come off for anything in this world, i mean they were part of the car now... then i took it to this detailing place..the guy looked at the stains on the car, walked away and came back with some sort of compound and a microfiber towel..he started rubbing on it and it wouldnt come out.. so then he was confused for a little while and he asked me "what the heck did you put on the car??" because pretty much every type of wax (even after being baked on the car for weeks) comes off with the polishing compound that he had..
Then he went to the back again and came back with a terry towl soaked in some kind of stuff that smelled like gas. he rubbed it on the car and the stains came right off.
the smell of that stuff reminds me of "goo gone", its deffinetly a solvent, but i dont know what kind, he didnt want to tell me what it is.. but for 20 bucks..he took it all off in 1 hour and gave it another coat of wax, because i suspect the solvent rubbed that away as well..

I tired the liquid form version of ICE in sunlight and it wasn't all that great. It was greasy when you apply it. It just made it harder and you had to keep turning the cloth just to get it off.
Where was this place in Houston, I am trying to decide if I want to repair my paint myself or let a detailer do it.
well... i used to work at a car detailing shop b4 i got in to university... when we face something that wun come off with a good paint cleaner, which means it got into the paint, that's why we use paint thinner to remove the whole layer of the paint, so customer is happy with small amount of money, and we are easy....
