ULTIMATE Quik Detailer

I wrote a review on the product on my blog. But due to "self-promoting" rules of the forum, I've cut and pasted the review directly into the thread. If you want to forward the link/review in other forums you know of, feel free. I'd appreciate it...and enjoy.

Meguiar’s Ultimate Quik Detailer Rocks!
posted by derrich, Thu 16 Aug 2007

As I flip through the latest edition of Road & Track, I come across an ad for Meguiars® Ultimate Quik Detailer®. Ultimate. As in better than regular Quik Detailer. I already use Meguiar’s products, so my curiosity was piqued.

I use Quik Detailer after every wash to take care of any places I may have missed. I also use it as a “lubricant” when I clean my paint with a clay bar…once a year. Well, there were two phrases that stood out in the ad (pay attention marketing researchers). The product was described as using “Hydrophobic Polymer Technology™“, and they suggest that the “water beads like crazy“. Scared of water? I had to see this for myself.

I ventured off to the nearest auto parts store in search of this uber spray-on detailer. No dice. I went to 3 other stores…with no avail. It took almost 2 weeks before it surfaced in the stores. Last weekend, I applied it for the first time. I almost sprayed my car down to see the super beading action, but I refrained. This weekend when I pre-rinsed my car, I witnessed that which should not be seen by car detailers…or anyone.

Keep in mind that it was time to apply wax to my car. Water did not bead like this before I applied the Ultimate Quik Detailer. I was amazed. Right now, the gale force winds and rain from Tropical Depression Erin are putting the ultimate test on this ultimate detailer. So far, the stuff works. More beads than at Mardi Gras. I highly recommend you try this stuff.

at some your metaphors!

I'm sure that the stuff is good, but I'd rather wash/clay/buff or wax and have better results, but I know that this stuff is a quarter of the time and from what you're describing, has pretty sweet results!

good find and I think I'm going to have to replace my Quik Detailer with this one soon!

Oh it's definitely no substitute for a good polish/wax job. Definitely a good 'tweener product.

Why not? Doesn't lubricate enough?

This was asked to the staff of the Meguiar's forum, and from what I got from it, it will just make the clay kinda fall apart and become useless due to the "Hydrophobic Polymer Technology™"

Exactly what I was told. Regular Quik Detailer for claying.

I just bought this bottle as well and gave it a try today. Applied on very easily. I thought it was going to streak but the streaks seem to vanished before I could wipe them away. The results seems pretty good so far, not claybar good though. I'll wait for the 12hr curing time and see how I like the end results.

By the way, I haven't waxed in over a month or two and it was long due for a wax job. After applying a coat to the hood, I decided to get adventurous and pour some water on the hood. It pretty much shot straight off the hood and bearly got my front bumper.

If you find that you get streaks that you can't get rid of, try NXT Speed Detailer to remove. I've been using it awhile now with no streaking. I've heard of some people that have had that issue, though.

Re-evaluation. It's been over a week of me cleaning/touching the paint. I park the car outside so it's facing all the elements (rain, sprinklers, dust, etc.) So far, it's been pretty good. It rained today and the water still beads up nicely. Not bad for just a quick detailer.

This stuff has definitely held up. After using a little over a month (only applied to my car twice):

Severe downpour last weekend

Picture doesn't do any justice to the beading action...beads are running for their lives.

It's been 10 days without cleaning the paint and the car's been sitting outside. Took a quick picture of the hood this morning after the rain. Not bad for a quick wax.

Careful, and remember do not think it is a wax, because it isn't. The durability of this product is very small, not usually more than a week for full effect. The only protection it will add is the hydrophobic effect. It is in reality meant to be a quick detailer in that it will remove light dusting that is VERY streak resistance (can be used in direct sunlight on very hot surfaces), and Meguiar's put its hydrophobic effect in to help the car be easier to maintain.

I used it yesterday after reading this thread, I will give an update to see how it holds up. It streaked on me, but the I was in the sunlight so that may have caused that. But I have noticed that dirt is not clinging to my car like it was right after I washed it Thursday.

Thanks for the heads up. I know this isn't going to replace my normal wax job but it is a great inbetweener for me. It gives the extra protection after I wash the car and with minimum effort.

WOW, my car is still beading water! I used it once after I made the post above on 9-15 like two days later. I haven't washed my car since then, and its almost a month later and its still working. Nevermind that my car is filthy though!

It's no wax, but it's definitely a great tweener product. The new Meguiars wax, NXT, uses similar technology. Great stuff!

Do you apply it after you wash and wax the car or before?

It's an in-between product. It doesn't replace waxing your car, you should wax it as you always have. This product is for after you wash your car in between your wax jobs

Tried it on the 2001 black MB over the existing Meg #21. Sprays very fine and does not streak. Durability to be determined. Bought off the shelf at O'Reillys for $8.99 less a $5.00 mail in rebate.
