How to safely clean my seatbelts ?

my seatbelts are really dirty. i was even considering replacing them altgether, but i found out thats gonna be upwards of 400 bux.

is there an easy or quick but safe way to clean them?
a special solution? it says in owners manual to use mild soapy water, but that seems like it would take forever.

all input appreciated

No matter what you use, it will take effort and time. IMO seatbelts are the hardest thing to clean. It's a tightly woven fabric, therefore hard to get clean. I'd suggest a 50/50 APC and water solution and stiff bristled brush.

If you can take the belt out of the car for cleaning, so much the better.

i took off the belts of my 88 civic....soaked them for 24 hours in a laundry soap and water mixture....then i scrubbed them using some oxy-clean stuff and a stiff fine-bristled brush...

but that was an 88 civic and the seatbelts were easy to take off... now i have a maxima with electric pretensioners and of array of trim material i have to remove before getting to the role assembly.... so i'm not touching those.
