best wax for a black max?

I herd of a wax called ice that was supposed to make a black car look even better..but i havent found it anywhere..

Do you guys know of any wax's that work very well on black cars?
Also is there any leather cleaners that would make my black leather shine or look newer than what it is..

Thanks

Poorboy's Natty's Blue is killer on Black. If you want a liquid, Clearkote's Carnauba Moose wax is a stunning product too.

Here's a link with a lot of good info. The cost is the same from most websites, but it usually goes on sale before Christmas. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Every penny.

I agree. Just used this on wifes Blue Max yesterday. I've used Klasse, Pinnacle and other high dollar products, but this NXT is the best bang for the buck without a doubt. Beautiful results and so easy to use.

Yup I tried many types of waxes on my dark green car and NXT by far beats all of them. I just waxed it last week and in Florida we have been having nonstop raining for this past week heh. But the wax managed to hold up after taking a nonstop beating while i was driving and in class. Still beads the water and makes my dark color car look shiny as hell.

NXT is good stuff. Great shine and very easy to apply and remove. Smells good, too. Works great on my black Max.

Any car store. I use the mequiars leather cleaner and it got it looking brand new again. There are many good leather cleaners out there.

If you like NXT, try their #21 which is the professional version. Suggest you wait until January when Meguiar's brings out their version 2.0 of both products. Supposed to have greater longevity.

For best results on the NXT wax if you haven't had any experience with it yet is to first apply some Deep crystal paint cleaner, followed by Deep crystal polisher then top off with 2 coats of NXT wax. It's definently worth the work. You could also claybar it after washing before doing the steps but since its a 08 i doubt you will need it.

Who makes the deep crystal paint cleaner and the deep crystal polisher?? Do you think I need to do this being an 08 though? I mean it wouldn't hurt to start it out right ya know. Now if I use the claybar, would I use it after the deep crystal applicants or use it by itself??...Wait nevermind...if I understand it...

Wash, dry, clay bar, deep crystal cleaner, polisher, then wax???

Yup you got the steps right. Its all by Mequiars and you can find it at any car stores. The Deep Crystal system is a soft abrahasive so you dont have to worry about the paint cleaner or polisher to do any damage to the new paint. The clay bar removes the deep contaminants left after the wash and prepares it for step 1 which is the paint cleaner. The paint cleaner then removes any light scratches or anything else that might show up after you wax it. Then after using DC1 or paint cleaner you use the polish which by my experience is well worth the effort. It creates a real smooth surface on your paint and also gives it a much deeper and more of a wet look after the wax is put on because it enhances the color. You can try to put it on one half of your hood and compare, you will see a huge difference in the color. Then just do a nice even layer of NXT wax and let it completely dry before removing it, and if you can let it "cure" for 12 hours before placing the next layer on. The cure is just enough time for it to really sink into the surface, meaning just dont get it wet for 12 hours so you can get the maximum benefit of the wax. I used to do one layer of NXT but my friend suggested 2 and after i let the first layer cure and placed the second layer it made my car look amazing. It gave it an amazing shine and made it look more like a mirror as you can see every image around the road on the wax. It's definently a head turner.

Eh im not much of an Eagle One fan but my friend loves it. I tried some of that nanowax stuff and wasn't impressed much as i was by Mequiars. It's all personal tastes though and the look you are trying to achieve. You ever try Mequiars Ultimate Quik Detailer? You should give it a try.

Since this is an 08, I am sure I won't be needing it, but I am gonna do it anyway because I don't know how 'detailed' the dealership is going to go into before I get my car on Saturday. What type of mit or cloth are you using to wash, dry, and apply each applicant, not to mention what to use when you take it off. I don't mind spending extra to get the microfibers but I've never used them for applying wax, or buffing or even drying. Also, you recommend all liquid when doing this or using the paste wax or any other 'paste' material? What about drying the car? Microfiber drying towel or a microfiber chamois.

Well from what i read its always recommended to give a full detail to a new car because it collects a lot of dust during transportation and storage, i garuntee you won't get more then a wash from the dealership. As far as what to use while applying there is no best answer, it comes down to preference as there are many options. You definently do not want to use old shirts or anything that can capture dirt while you're rubbing the car and have it scratch into the paint, this is the advantage of microfibers (what i use). Microfibers suck everything in so you do not have to worry about something getting stuck on the surface and you dragging it on your new paint. For drying I use The Absorber (can be found at any car store) which takes 98% of the water and go back through with a microfiber to get anything i missed, some people like to go with The Absorber and a micro Chamois or just straight chamois, its all preference. The good thing about the absorber is that it helps you dry your car much quicker and with less work so very little chance of getting water spots while drying. If you do end up with a few spots don't worry about it because the claybar or paint cleaner will take care of it, only time you want to be spotless is if your just doing a plain wash because there are no more additional steps afterwards unless you like to go thru again with the Ultimate Quik Detailer(recommended.)To apply soap you can either get a microfiber mitt or just a microfiber scrub, its preference at this point but i just use the scrub. If you buy the Mequiars Clay kit it will have a nice size microfiber included and a sample of carnuba wax and the Quik Detalier so its a nice buy. To apply items you can use a terry cloth or a applicator pad (this should come with a purchase of the NXT wax in the box). I use the applicator pad as it is very easy to use and applies a nice even coat, plus it came with my wax so its money saved. You can just rinse it when you need to apply something else like a polish or paint cleaner.
As far as liquids and paste goes its up to preference again. I personally stick to the paste because its easier to work with in the sense that you can get an even coating much easier which is very important while waxing, but some people can get the same results with liquid just depends on how you want to do it.
It all sounds like a lot of work but after getting the rythmn down it really doesn't take more then a few hours and thats including cleaning the windows, shining up my chrome rims and using gel on tires to give the wet look. I also recommend going with PlastX (Mequiars), but you will definently not need it for a while. What it does is clean all your plastic items like the headlights and takes off any minor scratches or dirt build up and fogging to give them that brand new look, but you won't have that problem for a while.
It is definently worth the effort because the work is definently noticed, my friend and I were walking to my car in the parking lot and the sun was bouncing off my chrome wheels and managed to blind us from 20 feet away, and the car looked like a mirror making everyone think i had it done professionally. You will see amazing water beading also which helps a lot due to my moms car using the garage (im only 18 heh) so mine is stuck outside while it rains, all i have to do is take a spin around the block and give a hard brake and you will see all the rain droplets slide right off your car and not leave a spot.

If you want to learn a lot of useful techniques and learn how to use all of the products and different ways to achieve different looks then give http://meguiarsonline.com/forums a try. That's where i learned all of the right techniques and the forum is very responsive, definently a good read...now if only i can get my hands on a dual action polisher...

Wait until NXT v2 comes out in January. It is significantly better than the original version. Stays slick for a really long time, beads like crazy and looks really deep and wet.

I got a sample to test, as you can see, it almost has a 3D look on this black C320.

Looks pretty good on this BMW 750 too.

Clearkote's Carnauba Moose is also excellent on black, definitely makes it even blacker.

Of course, prep is the real key to making black paint look good. The less swirls, scratching, etc, the deeper, wetter and more reflective it will look.

Seriously, call the dealer immediately and tell them you don't want them to even wash the car. Be there when the plastic comes off, let them make sure all the fluids, etc check out but under no circumstance should you let them get their grubby hands on your paint. Trust me, I have a folder on my computer filled with pictures of horrible dealer prep.

Take your car home, wash it with a quality car wash soap. If after drying, if the paint isn't glass smooth, then clay it. If the paint then looks fine, just go over it with a couple coats of NXT, then buy the new formula in January and start using that.

Oh yeah, tell them not to put one of their dealer emblems on the back of YOUR car either.

Damn man, you got to try NXT 2.0? That looks crazy, i definently can't wait until that hits the stores, they are upgrading almost every consumer product thats out right now, that is definently getting me excited. I don't use much carnuba wax although it does look good because it doesn't last too long. The only time i really use carnuaba is when i top it off with a polymer wax like NXT and i only use it for shows because i know it won't last too long. How did you manage to get NXT 2.0? You should send me a sample .

I've been doing testing for Meguiars for a few years now, plus I was invited out to Irvine in May of 2004 by Meguiars and I keep in contact with Mike Phillips at least a few times a year.

I got a 2 oz sample, have maybe half of it left so I am hanging on to it! BTW, looks great on yellow too. Detailed a yellow Silverado yesterday and finished with NXT v2. Customer was very happy. The boutique and online companies are not going to be happy though, I have a feeling they will be spending a lot of lab time trying to top Meguiars now.

So many products are better than Zaino it isn't even funny. My Zaino products pretty much sit, untouched while I use other products...and I got the Zaino stuff for free. I really don't get the hype, Zaino is pretty average stuff, IMO.

The NXT v2 is the best looking sealant I have ever used on black paint.

Yeah im with him, im not really impressed with Zaino, its not bad but nowhere near great. Until i get my hands on NXT 2.0 i will be using 2 coats of NXT because in my opinion its the best you can currently get on the shelves. It has never let me down and always get me compliments and turns heads, even my friends with buffers can't get their car to look like mine because i won't tell them my secrets . I just tell them their first mistake is using Eagle One, I got the nano wax from Eagle One because it was buy one get one free and i wanted to test it, i ended up giving away both after one use to my Eagle One loving friend.
I got a question for you though Scottwax, I live in Jax, Fl which is always humid as hell and when i wax my car, suprisingly, i get left with streaks when i take off my wax. I'm pretty much still a newbie to detailing cars and the streaks don't last that long, either go away in a few days or when i was the car or use Ultimate Quik Detailer. Its definently not visible from a distance but it bothers the heck out of me, any advise on how to go around this problem? Thanks man.

Use less product and let it set up a bit longer. With NXT, usually it takes 15 minutes or so until it passes the finger swipe test, add another 5-10 minutes in cooler or humid weather. FWIW, it was in the mid 50s when I use NXT 2.0 the other day and it was ready for removal in 15 minutes.

Oh yeah, someone on autopia.org says Wal-Mart has a gift pack that includes NXT 2.0 already for sale. Guess where I am headed in the morning?

0.0 I have no idea where you're going tomorrow but i have an idea where i am . Actually now i have a dilema, use up the rest of my NXT wax or just say screw it and get 2.0 and give my NXT away to a friend who is unfortunate to think Eagle One is the best. Hmmm choices.
Not leaving it long enough might be my problem, im just so used to the other steps where its a game where you have to put it on quickly and rush to take it off before it dries and is a pain to take off so i guess i do the same with the last step. I will try to make myself wait longer tomorrow when i do the redetail. Construction+rain+sprinklers+humidity= real dirty car in less then a week of a full detail heh. I get to enjoy it for a few days though.

Well I got the car yesterday. I had to drive down from the panhandle with a friend to get it because of my military duty station. I got there and it had the dealership logo already on it, my salesperson took it right off for me. No worries there. I guess they had detailed it because, well it looked like a new car. No worries there either because I already ordered everything I need off Maguires website. Some of it is 2.0 and some of it is the original NXT. No worries there because when I run out, 2.0 it is!!! I'll get some pics up soon, maybe by the end of the year. My weekends are pretty full but I'll make time, trust me.

Congrats on the purchase man (the car and mequiars stuff heh heh). Im in the process of redetailing my car right now and about to go claybar it since my mothers sprinkler decided to have a hay day all over my car last night. And of course if you wake up around 12pm like i do you will see hundreds of little rain drops that made their home on your paint, nice and dry heh. I'm not going to buy any 2.0 products for a good while just because i still have **** load of the original stuff, but as soon as i use it up i will definently be upgrading.

I thought I was doing something wrong with my Zaino; definitely wasn't all that.

I might try the NXT 2.0 when it comes out. Right now I use Mcguiars Cleaner Wax because I get alot of tire grime on my paint. Wash it, then hit it with Cleaner wax and it looks wonderful.

*edit* The cleaner wax removed contaminates that not even the clay bar could remove.

I'll tell you something else; my black 5.5 Gen shined WAY more than my black 6th Gen. Not sure why that is.

It could shine more because of the paint quality. Wax can only do so much, if your paint quality isn't that good then wax won't be able to make it look like its a show car. You try going through the 3 step process? Its more work but definently worth it, its Deep crystal paint cleaner which cleans and gets the paint ready for the other steps (works better then claying at times). Then follow it up by Deep Crystal Polisher that gets a ultra high gloss and top it off with 2 coats of NXT wax.
